We must be a scary bunch because @Washingtonian felt the need to hire security for last night’s Women in Journalism event.
Mostly, though, the security just encouraged guests to throw away our flyers for fair pay and parental leave.

Last year, @washguild filed an Unfair Labor Practice complaint against Washingtonian and @merrillwilliams after they refused to negotiate changes to workplace policy, as required.

📣 Thread, listen up! (1/14) For more than a year, we’ve been pushing Washingtonian management to engage seriously on fair pay in our contract negotiations. Instead, what do they want to talk about? Returning to the office. Why?
• 58% of women in the Guild make less than the median Guild salary of $56,750.
• 80% of nonwhite Guild members make less than the median.
• 100% of Black women in the Guild make less than the median.
• 1 man in the Guild makes less than the median.

Our Washingtonian Wrapped is live now and you should go give it a look!
A stronger, fairer, more diverse workplace is in everyone’s best interest—I hope management picks up the pace of @WashGuild bargaining sessions. All it takes is saying, “Okay, let’s get them on the calendar.”
I’m so proud of the work our bargaining committee has done so far. We need to get more sessions on the calendar so we can start making progress on the issues we all care about.
Washingtonian Guild is headed to the bargaining table for the first time today. (Wish us luck!) We deserve a great contract, and we're all in this together.
