I kind of disagree with this.

I don’t think most people stay in places like Toronto or Vancouver just for the prestige or the postcode. More often than not, they’re there because that’s where the jobs are.

I think we underestimate just how many places in Canada are essentially large towns rather than cities when it comes to career opportunities. Outside of a handful of major centres, job markets can be incredibly limited, especially if you’re in a specialised profession or looking for career progression.

In cities like Toronto and Vancouver, you have far more employers, more opportunities to switch jobs, better networking, and a clearer path for career growth. That’s what keeps a lot of people there—not the name of the city, but the reality of where the opportunities exist.

For many people, it’s less about chasing a postcode and more about chasing a career.
