1. I don't think people realize just how expensive electricity used to be.
Real electricity prices are HALF of what they were in 1960.
The "good old days" of "cheap coal" is just cheap propaganda.
Hey @stevefawkes - What's your hot take on this decision by the Canada Infrastructure Bank Building Retrofits Initiative use off the IREE? https://t.co/9vIDUhhomH
So true. Argued this back in 2018. Average annual co2 factors dont reflect changing dynamics of a renewables-based, flexible power system. https://t.co/ef1XdmJkf0
Industry leading companies with emissions reduction goals really need to start using hourly emissions factors. For many buildings, dispatchable demand and energy storage can have a huge emissions impact, but if they only use annual emissions factors then it won’t matter.
One reason I’m so hesitant about ESG and all the carbon accounting platforms out there is because none of them seem to care about this issue.
This is a cool just-announced product - electrified steam boilers for industry. I do wonder what the opex premium will be over gas...? https://t.co/gDtKN6kTnk
"I guess the lesson from that one is that maybe Ofgem should have done the network access and forward looking charging review first, and [Transmission Charging Review] second. But, oh well, a bit late to do that now." - Former Ofgem Director responsible for doing TCR reform.
It's the "but, oh well" that just kills me. Hilarious. If only someone had talked about this issue at length with this particular director. Over many meetings. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry, @trotheray
Major milestone: 🇩🇪 is moving ahead with carbon contracts for difference for industry decarbonisation:
▶️ 15 year agreement
▶️ steel, chemicals, cement
▶️ auction mechanism
▶️ expected start: early 2023
