Regardless of political party support or affiliation, I think we can all agree that any government that passes a law to make it harder to enrol and vote is a bad govt.
He fails to mention that for 40 years, New Zealanders have been able to enrol right up until midnight before election day.
The last two elections we could even enrol on election day.
It’s a massive backwards step that many people won’t know about until they try vote.
“The National Party has dismissed one of its electorate volunteers after the party learned through Herald inquiries he had been convicted in 2021 of sexual conduct with a minor”

this young interviewer completely embarrasses christopher luxon, who tries to say the kid doesn't know the details of the move-on bill, only for the kid to come back and grill him on the details, while luxon just stammers and deflects. clip via voteotago on instagram
#BHN let’s not be revisionists now Whanau.
When Luxon was asked if National would engage with gangs he said
“No, no, no, no, no, absolutely no,”
Luxon said zero engagement so let’s not try to say now the criticism was only about alleged campaigning…it wasn’t.
He then said of Labour “that they actually think that even their candidates think it's okay to hang out with gang members and pal around with them”
Just spending time with gangs was last weeks evil according to Luxon, don’t shift the goal posts now, just be honest and consistent.
If last weeks politician shouldn’t even “hang out” or “pal around with” gang members, then all we’re saying is the same should apply today.
@ajthompson13@gerrydavis123 Was there something going on in the world around that time that saw a lot of overseas cashed up Kiwis come home and buy properties?
@_breadcapital On brand for NZ - why have more competition in the market when you can slowly but surely make moves to create another duopoly somewhere?
National wants to be seen as "tOuGh On GaNgS" - fair, but you can't also have your MP's (and the PM now too) taking photos with gang members while criticising your opponents for the same thing, otherwise one might come to the conclusion that you're a massive hypocrite. #nzpol
@ajthompson13 That's a ridiculous strawman mate. I know we don't agree on politics, but I'd like to think we could all agree that making it harder for eligible voters to vote is a bad thing...regardless of which party makes it law.
The fact we’ve dug up pictures of Nat MP’s snuggling gangsters and they still don’t have the capacity to fall on their sword says a lot about that side of the House.
Will be interesting to see how much of the boot the media puts in at 6pm…
@mangonui08 Cute sound bite. Give us a step-by-step for how this will actually help “Kiwi workers” matua Harvard. Practical shit. Your govt signed us up to the India FTA too by the way, which promises them hundreds of Kiwis jobs annually…so I’m sure this will be enlightening. Kia Ora.
