Today I attended an online conference convened to discuss how to mobilize aid to flood victims in #Beledweyn and #Jowhar and find a durable solution to #HirShabelle State, which is often affected by floods or draughts.

3/3 The improvement affirmed the success of govt’s efforts made in the last 3 years to regulate & promote competition in the market. Currently we have ICT Law and Policy, and plans are in their final stages to put in place licensing, spectrum, numbering & interconnection regimes.

[H. E. Abdi Ashur @engabdiashur]

2/3 This was one of the latest in a range of positive indicators, which highlight that #Somalia's ICT environment was steadily improving. Such price reduction will support the digital economy’s contribution to our GDP as the number of internet-based services would increase.

[H. E. Abdi Ashur @engabdiashur]

1/3 I welcome #Somalia latest improved global ranking on the avrg cost of mobile data, which put us 1st place in #Africa & 7th worldwide. We made a huge progress, as the country was 134th worldwide and 37th in the continent. Thanks to operators 4 providing cost-effective services

I commend the initiatives of #Somali telecos in supporting the campaigns against Coronavirus, incl providing toll-free nos & incorporating awareness clip in the ringing tones. However, we encourage them to take further steps that may help their clients at this difficult time.
