The point of this public spectacle is obviously to scare and bully people into never saying anything online that the US government doesn't like. This is called a "chilling effect."

It's very important to note that countries like China and Iran - which unlike the Yanks do not use "free speech" as their national brand - have never publicly cancelled anybody's visa for tweeting things that their government didn't like. Yet according to Uncle Sam in Washington, they are the "repressive regimes" with "social credit systems."
