Two things (because stuff like this is very common)...

1) Jesus' parents literally traveled to Bethlehem during a national census "to register" (to be legally documented and comply with citizenship laws), Luke 2:1-3

2) Progressive people selectively-edit Jesus to leverage Him as a mascot for their cause. You can also say things like...

- Jesus was unvaccinated
- Jesus told his followers to buy self-defense weapons
- Jesus was majority culture in His region
- Jesus fed the poor without raising taxes
- Jesus came from a traditional patriarchal family
- Jesus loved his nation

... but Jesus is a Lord, not a mascot.
