History’s Zero: Putin Rewrites the Past. Again

The dictator has distorted the history of World War II, conveniently forgetting that in 1939 the Soviet Union occupied eastern Poland, annexed the Baltic states, attacked Finland, and helped pave the way for the deadliest conflict in human history through its secret deal with Hitler.

The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and its secret protocol dividing Eastern Europe between two totalitarian powers eliminated Poland as a buffer state and removed Hitler’s fear of a two-front war. Just one week later, on September 1, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, triggering World War II.

Moscow’s attempt to appease an aggressor while expanding its own empire ended in disaster. In 1941, Hitler turned on his Soviet partner, and the war Stalin believed he had postponed arrived at the gates of the USSR itself.

On the attack on the dormitory in Starobilsk: Ukraine says it was one of the headquarters of Russia’s Rubikon drone unit. Russia says it was an attack on civilians.

In this specific case, it is hard to say for sure what happened because of the fog of war and constant Russian lies.

But we do know that Russia uses teenagers to help build drones at the Alabuga factory in Tatarstan. We know it because they advertised this in several marketing videos like the one below.

A drone factory is a legitimate military target, but when Russia hires 15-year-olds to build drones, it also creates a hybrid strategy: if the factory is attacked, Russia can claim that Ukraine is killing Russian children.

The real crime is putting minors to work on drones in a place Russia knows is a military target.

I question the first photo. It maybe a Google Translate camera translation from Ukrainian into English, because of the Ukranian Latinization "Starobielsk", "Starobilsk" and "Luhansk".

In the Luganskaya Narodnaya Respublika Russian is the only official language.
