Embracing children with Down syndrome and other people with disabilities, the ailing and elderly whose lives are deemed unworthy to live by assisted-suicide advocates---Pope Leo XIV is a counter-witness to our age. (As beloved Francis was, too!)
It's all so distant from the Crusader LARPing, crypto-Nietzschean flexing, and angry chauvinism that define the faith for a subset of mainly young men online. It is to be hoped that at least some of them can glimpse the real thing in Leo's public ministry.
La France vit-elle son moment Solidarność ? Un réveil ? 🇫🇷⚜️

Pope Leo XIV: “The mission of the Christian soldier is… defending the weak, protecting peaceful coexistence, intervening in disasters, operating in international missions to preserve peace and restore order. All this cannot be reduced to a mere profession: it is a vocation, a response to a call that challenges the conscience. The soldier’s identity is forged by generosity, a spirit of service, high aspirations and deep feelings. But these values require a foundation, a gift of Grace capable of fostering charity to the point of total self-sacrifice. It is therefore necessary to inspire the codes, norms and missions of military life with the lifeblood of the Gospel so that, in the service of security and peace, the common good of peoples is always the first priority” https://t.co/qAmOtkDu6b
His life — his indefatigable, irrepressible drive to partake of all that it means to be human — bore witness against the culture of death.
My tribute to my friend (and Confirmation sponsee) Dovie Eisner.

The single most important thing you will read online this week or this month or maybe this year. Kudos to @EWErickson for having the courage and moral clarity to write it.

“This is ultimately a spiritual problem rather than a political one”
Amen!!
Indian Americans are as numerous as Jewish Americans, and they earn more on average.
By attacking Indian American kids for going to a football game, the New Right has made an enemy of the most successful ethnic group in the country.

This is racist and sinful rhetoric that seeks to harm and to divide. It is disturbing that it comes from a candidate for public office. An apology is called for. @FWdiocese@NTCatholic@TXCatholic@USCCBGovRel#Txlege
A beautiful Mass of remembrance. A day forever in memory. there are Images, words, faces, feelings from those moments televised in NY and then experienced as we evacuated DC that I will never forget. For all those who were lost, for survivors, for their families and for peace.
For anyone who might be interested, my reflections from fifteen years ago on 9/11 and my return, a few months later, to the Catholic Church: https://t.co/eYY0Fi8WBA
May we be united in prayer today for those who died in the horrific attacks of 9/11 and for their family members, for peace in our world, and for the safety of first responders and all those serving in the military. May God bless our nation and stand beside her and guide her.
President Trump’s latest tariff brawl with Canada will hurt consumers and employers in both countries for no good purpose. https://t.co/IyaHkVAvGE via @WSJopinion
"The conflation-misstep" Succinctly captured! This is why we need public philosophers not just public economists, working in their own capacities. Why economists are subjectivists https://t.co/wOdyEhz3A4
As he visits the Italian city of Rimini, Pope Leo XIV spends a moment with Louis “Blue Lou” Marini, an American saxophonist and composer, best known as a member of The Blues Brothers band.
