My experiences in VR (whether it be games/exercising/meditation and productivity apps) have generally been extremely uplifting, and have enhanced my engagement and appreciation of the physical world.
Some people I speak to about VR are fearful of a matrix-style dystopia where societies enter into a fabricated reality, leaving the outside world in ruins. My own VR experiences lead me to a more optimistic view, of a virtual and augmented world integrated with the physical.
But I do not see the medium as the message. Technology has always been simultaneously constructive and destructive to our society, depending on the intentions behind its use.
