#ENVIR491 is coming to the end of this leg of the @UWPoE journey!
I'm finishing the final assignments this weekend and will be working on my deliverable for the NE Seattle Tool Library for a little while. Good luck to anyone turning in their assignments later than tonight!
My central #ENVIR491 takeaway, which relates to outreach to underserved communities, is about how important it is to focus on cultivating genuine connections and relationships with the community you are trying to reach.
Now I'm trying to turn that into some actionable plans! ๐
@oliviatjohnson I really like the first point you made! Environmental education is definitely not something that you can use the same PowerPoint for throughout a longer educational career ๐
@gthomsenuw37 To begin, there are the tools! This includes (and is not limited to) woodworking, culinary, party planning, home improvement, and gardening tools. There is also a bike shop as well as a workshop space you can utilize independently or with the help of shop steward volunteers!
#ENVIR491 Here are some of the many volunteer opportunities you can involve yourself in at the NE Seattle Tool Library!! (Volunteering once a month can get you membership and access to so many resources ๐ซถ๐ผ)

@ChristineSzR Just plugging away at the final assignments and keeping up on communication with my Site Supervisor. We met up today to make sure the deliverable was on track and talk about potential opportunities to stay on the team. I would definitely recommend! ๐
It's time to grind! I can feel the power of procrastination kicking in ๐คฉ
Side note: I'm excited to tell #ENVIR490 students to not do this in #ENVIR491
@oliviatjohnson It would be nice to automatically have more time to complete the deliverable(s). I'm working until the end of the quarter, and having another week to complete the deliverable after officially finishing the internship would be ideal. Regardless, it is great that we can extend!
@gthomsenuw37 The interviews have gone great! Everyone has been super enthusiastic to share their experience and knowledge. As for the request process... let's just say the summer is a busy time๐ Even so, I'm happy with what I've done so far! Good luck on getting six, you got this!! ๐คฉ
How many interviews does #ENVIR491 have on the schedule (completed and concretely scheduled)? I'm currently sitting at 4 completed out of 8 scheduled! Still on the search for more ๐๐๏ธ
For some further context on the last bullet point. Individuals have simply been unavailable, whether it be summer vacation or work they are doing ๐ #ENVIR491
#ENVIR491 Interview Advice So Far..
- Start sending out those interview requests ASAP. People are busy and can take a while to respond
- Don't be afraid to send follow-up emails
- Cast a wide net if you can. Maybe I've been unlucky, but nobody has accepted an interview yet๐ฌ
@ChristineSzR Mine is a collection of random notes, thoughts, and progress tracking. I split it up by week and have each day be a new line with bullet-point notes/times for the day. I also record the hours I spent doing work that week and cumulatively
