@guzdial @ShriramKMurthi @tamaraniac Perhaps students who have only been exposed to WYISWYG patterns struggle to grasp non-WYSIWYG patterns when they encounter coding for the first time.

Is there anything in elementary math, ela, social studies, or science curriculum that has non-wysiwyg patterns in it? 2/2

@guzdial @ShriramKMurthi @tamaraniac Thought of this today. I had a 4th grade teacher ask me recently, "What's the point of introducing pattern recognition as a computational thinking skill?"

And it's this very thing. It may be that patterns in elementary ed are all WYSIWYG patterns. 1/2

@speechanddebate I discovered Hohokam Stadium! (Spring training site for the A's.)

So cool! No game going on, but the surrounding fields are open to the public. Joggers, dog walkers, and kids kicking soccer balls against the walls of the stadium.

How come nobody mentions it?
