🗣️ For some patients, COVID-19 symptoms continue long after the initial infection. 😷 Causes of long COVID are still being studied, but there is no single explanation for all patients.

Long COVID has been shown to significantly affect people’s ability to work. A systematic review found that about 49% of people with Long COVID were working reduced hours, while more than 50% were on some form of sick leave within months after infection.
🔬 In order to study the epigenetic mechanisms altered by infections such as #HIV or #SARSCoV2 our researchers use different techniques. One of them is named ATAC-seq 👇
🗣️ Post-COVID condition (or also named #LongCOVID) is a health condition in which symptoms persist, return, or develop after the initial infection with COVID-19. Read further👇
🧠 How does HIV affect the brain as we age? Can epigenetics help prevent the neurological effects of HIV? We have recently created a flyer highlighting part of the research within our project. Read more to learn about it 👇

🔬💻Meet Laura Jiménez Gracia, computational biologist in Omniscope, one of our partners.
She works by combining bioinformatics and single-cell analysis to better understand how the immmune system changes during disease. Watch the video to know more 👇
🗣️ “Long COVID symptoms only last for a few weeks.” This statement oversimplifies a complex and often unpredictable condition. Long COVID can affect people for months or even years after.

🦠Neuro-HIV, refers to the neurological complications caused by infection with HIV.🧠One of the main conditions associated is HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, which includes mild cognitive impairment as well as more severe forms like dementia. #NeuroHIV#Dementia
