As the United States expanded westward following the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the U.S. government systematically stripped the Osage (Native American tribe) of their ancestral lands through a series of treaties.

​Missouri to Kansas - (1808–1825):
The Osage were forced to cede their homelands and move to a reservation in southern Kansas.

​Kansas to Oklahoma (1870–1872):
Under heavy pressure from white settlers and railroad companies, the tribe was forced to sell their Kansas reservation.

A Strategic Choice: Unlike many tribes whose reservations were assigned by the government, the Osage used the $1.25-per-acre proceeds from their Kansas land sale to buy their own reservation from the Cherokee Nation in northeast Oklahoma (modern-day Osage County). Because they bought the land outright, they secured a unique legal position that would change their history forever.

The Oil Boom and the "Reign of Terror"

​In 1894, massive oil reserves were discovered beneath the rocky, seemingly infertile Osage reservation. Led by visionary tribal members like Principal Chief James Bigheart, the tribe negotiated the Osage Allotment Act of 1906. While the surface land was divided among members, the tribe successfully fought to retain collective ownership of all subsurface mineral rights in perpetuity.
​Every registered member received a "headright"—a share of the oil royalties. By the 1920s, the Osage Nation became the wealthiest community per capita in the entire world.

​The Reign of Terror (1920s)
​This immense wealth drew targeted corruption and malice from outsiders. The U.S. government instituted a deeply racist "guardianship" system, declaring many full-blood Osage "incompetent" and forcing them to have white legal guardians manage their money.

​What followed was a dark period known as the Osage Reign of Terror.

Dozens of wealthy Osage men and women (most famously the family of Mollie Burkhart) were systematically murdered via poisoning, shootings, and bombings by white plotters seeking to inherit their lucrative headrights. The scale of the murders eventually triggered one of the first major homicide investigations by the newly formed Bureau of Investigation (later the FBI), uncovering a massive local conspiracy

I was having an intense conversation with some parents about the lawless driving thanks to inept legal systems and nil fear of legal consequences due to the laxities of our police force
Its dangerous for our kids to cross roads, ride bicycycles, bikes or jog on roads as some errant spoilt kids might run them over while performing an inexperienced speed test with his car while high on a less detectable joint.

Somewhere through the discussion I got the feeling that a few parents were very quiet through it cuz they were more concerned that the petition was Against 'their own kids' as the potentially errant drivers.

There is a lack of fear even when killing someone in a hit and run.

It's easy for the police to delay a blood test if not switch it.

It's easy to delay investigation.

Judges are corruptible

Lawyers swing the system

Road traffic accident tribunal is a sham and a disgrace to a developing country like India.

Life is cheap because we are made to believe that.

There have been so many accidents with parents losing their kids and families losing their loved ones YET they're is no change in the crap law that grants instant bail and delays blood tests.

#Bmc #mumbai needs to be taken to task. The richest Govt body takes the very citizens that contribute to its fat kitty for a complete ride with third class service and primitive caveman technology.
I nearly lost my son in a car accident and found him in the sh*ttiest hospital I can imagine with zero equipment or an ambulance to take him to a better hospital. It was a decrepit shell and that too in Mumbai . I've paid crores in taxes in the past and lacs more like me but received nothing but a long #ropeofhope.

I feel my heart sink everytime I see the Pic of the mother and relive the time we went through this.

All of you, especially those who have children, can imagine the unbearable pain she must be going through. You bring a life into this world. This fate would still have been understandable had it been a truly unavoidable accident. But, as usual, there were warning signs. Residents of the area where the tree fell on the bus had repeatedly complained to the BMC about the condition of the trees.

In fact, the Garden Dept of BMC had also warned the Road Dept of BMC that road excavation was damaging tree roots, making the trees vulnerable to collapse during the monsoon. It asked them to stop digging near roots, remove the debris and warned it would be held responsible if any tree fell. But it wasn't taken seriously.

Now, the mayor has ordered an inquiry. Now, tree pruning will begin. Now, every necessary action will be taken. Sarkari kaam hota hai, lekin balidaan ke baad. Vihan ne balidaan de diya hai. Ab kuch dino tak sab kaam honge.

I returned the samosa. A ₹2,500 samosa is a little hard to digest. You can keep it—it may help your profit margins.
