The night we launched my book, Now You Know How Mapetla Died: The story of a Black Consciousness martyr, mam’ Ntsiki Biko (Steve Biko’s widow) said there are only 2 occasions in which she saw her husband crying: the day his sister died and the day Mapetla died on this day in 1976. Little did she know Steve Biko would be gone a year later. Between Mapetla and Steve are 21 deaths in detention, Mapetla being the 24th activist killed in detention and Steve the 46th. All in a space of a year and 3 weeks.

The interviewee repeatedly gives the example of state housing. Permanent state housing is already reserved for citizens. It always has been.

Social grant beneficiaries are 99.5% citizens. This campaign is built on utter lies.

We have serious problems delivering social rights. And those problems have absolutely NOTHING to do with migration. We already prioritise citizens in all state provision; we fail for other reasons.
