Pope Leo XIV was expected to reflect on pressing social issues and to refer - in his addresses to the Spanish society - to his groundbreaking "Magnifica Humanitas" encyclical.
He did not disappoint.
If you need Pope Leo's "Magnifica Humanitas" soundbite, here it comes:
" We must avoid humiliating or antagonistic words, opting rather for a clarity that sheds light and a frankness that unlocks new possibilities.
We cannot condone naïve enthusiasms, nor fuel unfounded fears. Instead, let us establish standards for discernment -- the dignity of the human person, the universal destination of goods, the preferential option for the poor, care for our common home and peace -- and let us translate these standards into practices such as responsible planning, the assessment of human and social impact, the inclusion of the most vulnerable, the promotion of digital literacy and guiding research and industry toward justice and peace."
(Magnifica Humanitas, 14).
This brilliant young man, who apparently self-identifies as an atheist, appears to be a humble person of good will who understands the weight of the Catholic Church’s moral voice.
@BishopBarron uses Weigel 2003 claim that the determination of whether war is just according to the Church’s guidelines is a subjective judgement by civil authorities. But @CardinalMcElroy in interview with me @The_Tablet says no, these are an “objective measure”, ie true or not?
“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise…” St. JPII

Just to be sure, provision has been made for every US parish/worship site (… and perhaps beyond?) to include an explicit intention for the Pope & his message of peace – and that civil authorities might heed it – for weekend Masses… Right?
Public officials may opine about theology, as is their right.
The Successor of Peter teaches. This is his office.
If what he teaches doesn’t sound like what we want to hear, we should admit the likelihood that the problem is in what we want to hear, and not in what he teaches.
U.S. Bishops’ Chairman on Doctrine Issues Clarification on Just War Theory
“When Pope Leo XIV speaks as supreme pastor of the universal Church, he is not merely offering opinions on theology, he is preaching the Gospel and exercising his ministry as the Vicar of Christ.”
God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.
Renovo a todos o convite para unirem-se a mim na Vigília de Oração pela Paz, que celebraremos na Basílica de São Pedro no sábado, 11 de abril, às 18h de Roma. #RezemosJuntos#Paz
I urge everyone to accompany this moment of delicate diplomacy with prayer, in hopes that a willingness to dialogue may become the means to resolve other conflict situations in the world as well. #PrayTogether#Peace
À luz do Ressuscitado, recordemos hoje com especial carinho o Papa Francisco, que na segunda-feira de Páscoa do ano passado entregou a sua vida ao Senhor.
All men and women, especially Christians, are called to fix their gaze on those who suffer, on the pain of the lonely, and on those who are emarginated for various reasons, for without them we cannot build a just society. Only together can we build communities of solidarity capable of caring for everyone, in which wellbeing and peace can flourish for the benefit of all. Caring for the humanity of others helps us to live our own lives to the full.
Education is habituation/formation; you can't offload it. No one thinks AI can lift weights for you. Similarly, it cannot develop a mind for you. Sadly, we have an education system that has forgotten this, that has made itself transactional, narrowly focused on credentials.
