@Tagishsimon Thanks for your replies! I don't mean to discourage you from voicing opinions about how the foundations should prioritize work, only to make clear that volunteers are also welcome to step in and implement those priorities themselves should they choose.

@Tagishsimon WMDE and WMF staff do actively maintain some editing infrastructure, but staff support doesn't scale to the hundreds of bespoke editing tools that the community has created. These things ultimately live or die based on volunteer interest and support.
