@YRDSB_ESL A3. To determine appropriate scaffolds, I must first determine the language demands of a math task. These include the language demands of the task itself as well as language demands of math processes & the math talk the students must engage in #ELLchat_YRDSB
A2. Ensuring access to math for ELLs starts with designing rich tasks. According to @JuditMoschko, "For students to participate in academic

@YRDSB_ESL@naomi_lawrence1@natalie_mascoll@Tweet2Annu A3. One misconception re: ELLs in K is that engaging in inquiry is challenging if they are still acquiring language. @MsB_ELL Thank you @MsB_ELL for surfacing the importance of maintaining high expectations through both content and language goals. Developing these goals helps us to think about ways in which we can scaffold accommodations for Ss. #ELLchat_YRDSB
@royanlee This also encourages us as educators to broaden what we document and how we assess, so that our Ss are actively engaged in the assessment process #yrdsbchat

@YRDSB_ESL A1. Using a learner profile in an ongoing way helps me to think through what I know about my learner (strengths, backgrnd experiences, etc) and what I still need to find out. Building one is also a great opportunity to connect with parents and families. #ELLchat_YRDSB
RT S_Weyrich: March #yrdsbtalk will focus on Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy. We hope you can join on Tuesday March 5th at 8PM to discuss and build a shared understanding of CRRP and it's Anti-Oppressive foundation.
@YRDSB_ESL Thank you @ross_steph10 for surfacing the role of parents. A great YRDSB resource to support this is "Talking With Your Child in Your Home Language". Available in 13 languages. https://t.co/mywZ5w5Uz8 #ELLchat_YRDSB
