Reading Recovery Europe kicks off its Reading Recovery Champions month at William Tyndale Primary School with a reading for enjoyment event. Everyone here loving listening to someone reading aloud and then reading independently. #ReadingRecoveryChampions#HachetteChildrensBooks
We know that Reading Recovery works - research conducted over many years that shows us the effectiveness of the intervention.

#Phonics#Literacy
Such an inspiring session. Phonics is not a discrete activity. If we’re not reading for meaning, we’re not reading at all. Pictures can elevate the meaning beyond words on the page. Phonics is important…language is important too. Love that the double helix starts with the child!
Thank you @AMatczuk for helping us to consider writing in terms of composing, recording and reading. The importance of the conversation can’t be underestimated. We have to remember that many children have never learned how to have a conversation.
Really interesting session. Lots of food for thought around writing in terms of transcription, composition and writing pedagogy. Are teachers viewing conversations around writing as language learning opportunities? Are they more focussed on transcription or composition?
@BarbaraBleiman Effective schools teach comprehension from the start alongside decoding. Phonics is necessary to reading but on its own it is insufficient.
Reading is about so much more than just decoding words on a page. Revisiting the reading rope helps us remember that ‘reading science stretches far beyond teaching how to read words, providing evidence for ways to teach children how to comprehend as well’ (Kambach & Mesmer, 2024)
Parent testimonials highlight the positive impact of Reading Recovery, from their children's reading and writing skills to motivation, engagement and sense of self-efficacy.
This aligns with research on the effects of Reading Recovery on motivation.

@Mearns_Primary It was a pleasure to come along and observe today! The confidence of the pupils from both @Carolside_PS and @Mearns_Primary was very impressive. Both teams had clearly researched the topic well and delivered their arguments clearly and with passion. Well done!
