Make no mistake about it, the Majors have FAAFO’d and that’s why we are seeing LIV Golf players getting invited to the majors.  The establishment is buckling under the pressure, and we are witnessing the capitulation (with Tiger’s blessing).

A large business transaction was consuming all of my time for the last month, but the distance was great for perspective.

First, the two most important comments during Masters week were from Brandel Chamblee and Tiger Woods.
Chamblee said on a broadcast that players going to LIV had “left golf”. 

Just think about the foolishness and audacity of that statement. But, it explains the establishment mindset and why change in golf has been a painful process.

Golf’s grey haired, leather loafer crowd thought they were the rulers and owners of the sport (and the players).  Hiding behind the incredible charitable work done by local organizations, PGA Tour leaders grew their empire at the expense of a real global presence for the sport.

Newspapers and the big TV networks used to think ‘news’ was theirs to give out as they saw fit.  But, the Internet came along, and we all know how that ended.  Chamblee is like an old newspaper editor who became irrelevant when they were no longer the gatekeeper for something that wasn’t theirs in the first place – the news.  Now, Chamblee sees the winds of change and he is calling for some type of deal to get done.  In doing so, he nakedly exposes his own lack of integrity.  

The second and more important comment during Masters week was from Tiger.  He said, “I don’t know if we’re closer (to a deal), but certainly we’re headed in the right direction.” He also said, “That was a very positive meeting, and I think both sides came away from the meeting feeling positive.”

That was the moment all anti-LIV, PGA Tour sycophants (and press bobbleheads) should have known the gig was up and things are going to change.  SSG’s cash is burning a hole in their pockets and the PGA Tour is not a franchise model like LIV and isn’t part of a much larger effort to bring a country into the future.   SSG is going to lose everything if they don’t figure this out and pressure has been mounting. 

Phil Mickelson’s recent deleted “ FAAFO”comments about the majors were spot on right (I’ve said it myself countless times).  The real owners of the game are the players (at all levels) and the fans, and they will have a funny way of deciding how they want professional golf to look and what is a major is if the current ones fail to change with the times.

I’m guessing Mickelson deleted the post because he understands he has to transition from being a fighter to a leader. Delicacy is now required at certain moments. But, if you are warrior in a fight for the future of something important to you, it’s not always easy to transition from battlefield general to political leader – especially when they came after you in personal ways with everything they had.

But, Phil beat them. 

However, I disagree with Mickelson on one fine point.  He spoke about it in the future tense.

Truth be told, the majors and the establishment have already Fucked Around And Found Out and this has resulted in dwindling TV viewership, aged fans, and pissed off sponsors.

We are now witnessing them change their tune in front of our very own eyes because they are slowly realizing they are on the way out if they don’t adapt.
