Fantastic evening for a small, private dinner with new Consul General of the Netherlands @Eric_Strating. I appreciate the small dinner party for their manufacturing trade mission and have no doubt that he’ll enjoy Chicago after posts in Baghdad, Tripoli and Havana.

Eric’s been in Chicago for less than two months and this is the third trade mission with Dutch companies. Many are in town this week for @IMTSchicago and several companies will be attending “Illinois Night” hosted by the @IMA_Today and @IMECillinois tomorrow.

They are an important trading partner. Illinois exports to Netherlands totaled $2.43 billion in 2023, a 102.1% increase since 2019.

● Netherlands is Illinois’ 9th largest export market.

● Illinois ranks 6th among the 50 U.S. states in exports to Netherlands.

● Netherlands is Illinois’ 8th largest import market.

● Illinois ranks 2nd among the 50 U.S. states in imports from Netherlands.

We appreciate the friendship and partnership as we grow our trade!

Today, on July 17, we commemorate the #MH17 tragedy, in which 298 innocent lives, including 196 Dutch citizens, were lost.

Ten years on, the grief remains profound. The Netherlands remains determined to seek truth, justice, and accountability for the downing of Flight MH17.
