What if we could breed crops for entire farming SYSTEMS, not just individual performance?
Our new preprint explores "legacy effects" - how one crop's genetics influence the next crop in rotation.
The results surprised us! ๐งต

Our latest paper explores the potential to harness haplotypes conferring multiple disease resistance in wheat breeding
Check it out in @TheorApplGenet: https://t.co/KAZD2xlrzd
Congratulations to PhD student Jingyang Tong!
My first tri-societies meeting, and what an experience! Got lost trying to find my symposium room. Ended up doing laps around the convention centre in San Antonio (wishing Stava logged it).
What a massive meeting and powerhouse of crop, agronomy and soil researchers in the USA!
Rooms to mimic rainforests or deserts, the capacity to control the light, temp, humidity and CO2, I got an exclusive tour behind the scenes brand new Plant Future Facility at UQ the most precise lab of its kind in the southern hemisphere @QAAFI @UQ_News https://t.co/VU08Rh8Sxu
EXCITING TIMES AHEAD FOR PREDICTIVE AGRICULTURE! ๐๐พ
Great to see AI-guided FastStack haplotype wheat in the field. They perform well. Great job from @UQ_News

And wrapping up the final plenary session of #IWCPerth2024 is Dr Eric Dinglasan from @QAAFIl who shares an overview of the potential offered by AI-guided breeding for wheat genetic improvement.
Our new paper in @plantgenome highlights the potential of optimal haplotype stacking (OHS), a method that retains useful diversity in breeding populations
Congrats to team incl. Kira Villiers, @KaiV_F, Ben Hayes, @eric_uq & Bertus Jacobs @BreedersPlant

NEWS: A new industry partnership will harness cutting-edge AI technology to improve sorghum breeding for the benefit of Australian growers. Congratulations Dr Eric Dinglasan @eric_uq . We're looking forward to working together with you on this exciting project. #grainsorghum #pacificseeds #agresearch #growingpossibilities
And we're off... Ben Hayes from @UQ_News takes the stage at @AGBT Ag 2024 to discuss chromosome segment stacking to create ultimate crop and livestock genotypes. #AGBTAg
Itโs a wrap. The last day of the conference started with a inspiring keynote of Mark Cooper who revisited the breeders equation followed by some last excellent talks.
Thanks to everyone who joined, you made the conference really exciting!
