The PBS News team, including our foreign affairs and defense team, will not be signing the Defense Department's new press policy. It is a direct violation of our duties as journalists to cover this administration and the Department without fear or favor. 1/2
"My biggest fear is that no one will remember him," Bill McGinly told me a decade after losing his son Mark in the Sept. 11 attacks. For him, each day, it all comes back.

BREAKING here - U.S. team in quake zone told they are fired, per source.
The 3-person disaster assessment team sent to Myanmar for the U.S. received termination notices while staying/sleeping outside — US AID workers were told on an all hands call today, per a source familiar.
Bill McGinly lost his son Mark in the 9/11 attacks. "My biggest fear is that no one will remember him," he told me a decade later. His hope in sharing Mark's story was that he wouldn't forgotten. https://t.co/GVWGV4GpHc
I've been to the Tidal Basin a million times over the years, but I'd never seen the water this high. It really feels like a glimpse of the future. https://t.co/QlLpVTXqHQ
So @wamu885 has a Community Council, which is supposed to represent the listening public. I would love for its members to ask station leadership exactly how they plan to richly cover the D.C. region with far fewer reporters. And then press them on it.
I have so valued the reporting of these journalists laid off by WAMU today. I know the official word is that this is about focusing on the audio product, but these journalists were GREAT on the RADIO! ...in addition to what they published on DC-ist. Their voices are WAMU too.
I am at an absolute loss of words for what I fear might happen to @wamu885 and @dcist, two places that defined so much of my career in local journalism and which I grew to love. I’m sending all the support I can to all my former colleagues there, who are the best in the business.
It's the best day of the year: @CWSoftballGame. Taking the field to beat Congress (obviously) but also for my dear friend and breast cancer survivor @caramrich. Get your tickets to support @YoungSurvival and see the #badnewsbabes win 🥎 https://t.co/ZPiqbf2Etc
I'm looking forward to playing in my first @CWSoftballGame next week & hope to see you there! 🥎
The game benefits the Young Survival Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to the critical issues unique to young people diagnosed with breast cancer.

I’ll never forget the day a potential @19thnews donor heard my toddler cry in the background on a zoom call and said “sounds like you’ve got more important things to be doing right now than launching a startup.” (He never cut a check.)
It's Layoffs Week @NPR. How NOT to make it worse on those affected. A thread:
1) Do NOT reTweet or repeat unconfirmed reports and unsourced reports with names of people laid-off;
2) Give these journalists the respect and dignity they deserve. Let them announce if/when they want;
