#Syria: Women Press Freedom is outraged by the Turkish drone strike that killed journalists #JihanBelki and #NazimDashdam near the Tishrin Dam, on the outskirts of Kobani. They were reporting on attacks on the dam when, according to local human rights groups, their vehicle was "directly" targeted. Their driver was also injured in the strike.

This tragedy comes amid escalating Turkish attacks in northern and eastern Syria. Jihan Belki is the third woman journalist killed by a Turkish drone strike this year, following the deaths of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn in Iraq in August.

We strongly condemn this attack and demand an immediate, independent investigation to determine if these journalists were deliberately hit. Purposefully targeting the press in a conflict zone constitutes a war crime. Türkiye must be held accountable for the growing number of Kurdish journalists killed and injured by its drone strikes.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of Jihan and Nazim.

DAANES is the key to stopping ISIS from rising again. They empowered communities to build self-governance creating an inclusive society where everyone is treated with the same human dignity, regardless of ethnicity, religion or gender. This is the only way to permanently defeat extremism.

Even during the overthrow of #Assad, Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) split from HTS after capturing #Aleppo & many went north to the Shehba Region where #Kurdish, #Yazidis & #Christian IDPs reported being targeted with crimes forcing 100,000+ to flee to Raqqa & Tabqa. If Turkey is allowed to invade again, there will be more atrocities against these communities.

The US & international community should use all the levers they have - including threatening sanctions - to stop Turkey from invading again.

🔴 WATCHDOG REPORTS 20 TURKISH AIR-STRIKES, EIGHT DEATHS IN NORTH AND EAST SYRIA

The Rojava Information Center (@RojavaIC) has published a report detailing a sharp increase in Turkey's aerial bombardment of North and East Syria. The report reveals that over 20 air-strikes have hit critical humanitarian facilities, causing eight additional fatalities and raising the 2023 death count to over 80. These attacks have led to widespread power and water outages in Kurdish areas, heightening concerns of an impending humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, in a rare clash between #NATO powers, US forces have reportedly downed a Turkish drone.
