@andystaples@AriWasserman Andy & Ari: Folks have focused on 8 SEC teams tying with 6-2 conference records. What if, instead, Tennessee and Texas win out, which leaves Georgia and Texas A&M with 3 losses, and Alabama, Mizzou and Ole Miss lose again for their 3rd loss. Would that be disastrous for the SEC?
@andystaples@cjogara@andystaples The Core Four is already taken. Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Jorege Posada -- the four homegrown Yankees who were part of the 1996-2000 run and still part of the team in 2009 -- are referred to as the Core Four. https://t.co/QFwuKLXlv1
@MattBrownEP Haha - fair enough, Matt. My point is that in a couple hundred characters it’s possible to call out more than the most glamorous of the obvious ridiculous votes. If you call out one, not hard to add the others in a tweet.
@davidubben Totally fair. But why not also call out the voter who named Cody Schrader, Mizzou’s QB No. 1? Or Ollie Gordon, Okie State’s RB? Probably not as sexy to call out those voters as throw out out McCarthy’s name.
@MattBrownEP And I should add, fine to call out one ridiculous vote but call out all of them while at it and not just go after the biggest name on the highest-ranked team.
@MattBrownEP I totally agree that McCarthy not No. 1 - or even close - but at 1,600 and 1,500 yards for Gordon and Schrader you’re bushwhacking pretty far be for you find your path.
@godux1987 It’s not a team award. Record has nothing to do with it. See Barry Sanders 1988. Best player. That’s it. Fair to argue whether Daniels was best, but record isn’t a factor.
@AriWasserman Ari, gonna give you a “But”. Love your originality … But would you have left Barry Sanders off your ‘88 ballot if you voted then? He had little to do with “the story of the season.” But he was the best player. That’s what the award if for, no matter what your mentor told you.
@NicoleAuerbach Lincoln Riley may be as deserving of @AriWasserman’s mighty pen as Kirk Ferentz. One is an affront to offense, the other an affront to defense.
@AriWasserman After eviscerating Kirk Ferentz last week for offensive malpractice (appropriately) and refusing to part with Brian, what about doing the same to Lincoln Riley for defensive malpractice at multiple schools? #USC may yet beat #Cal as I write this, but …
