Van Jones. A Democrat to the core. A CNN host. Former adviser to President Obama. Several of his books have topped the New York Times bestseller list. Here's what he posted on X:

> "I'm tired of being told that, in order to call myself a progressive, I now have to swear loyalty to absurd ideas. I'm a committed Democrat with a successful record of bipartisan cooperation. My beliefs are rooted in progressive values and policies: criminal justice reform, the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, free education, and clean air and water. I've fought for these causes my entire adult life.

But some people in organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are pushing an agenda that goes FAR beyond those ideals. Supporting Hamas is not progressivism. 'No police, no prisons, no borders' is not progressivism. Glorifying the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressivism. Those are REGRESSIVE ideas.

If there were no police, no prisons, and anyone in your neighborhood could do whatever they wanted while politicians applauded terrorist groups—would that be PROGRESS for you? No. That would be a step backward. Those are REGRESSIVE ideas.

On the other hand, if everyone could see a doctor when they were sick, receive a quality free education, and breathe clean air—would that be progress? Yes. Those are PROGRESSIVE ideas.

These are NOT the same thing. And the difference is fundamental. Some people defend the far left by claiming they simply want Scandinavian-style social democracy. If that were true, I might applaud them. I want those policies too! But what does universal healthcare have to do with Hamas? With abolishing all law enforcement? With eliminating all borders? With treating every wealthy person as a villain? Ideas matter. And these ideas are terrible.

Right now, extremists are trying to push regressive ideas into our party, hoping that moderate Democrats are too frustrated with MAGA and the Democratic establishment to notice.

But we do notice.

Yes, we want the Democratic Party to be a broad coalition. But we don't need jerks who ruin the party for everyone. So STOP contaminating the punch bowl—and trying to convince us that what you've dropped into it is just ice cubes."

The only problem is that hardly anyone is listening anymore, Mr. Jones.

BREAKING: Hegseth MELTED DOWN and accused a senator of "Trump derangement syndrome" after being confronted with his own failed war claims in antagonistic Senate hearing.

Pete Hegseth walked into today's Senate Appropriations Committee hearing hoping to sail through a routine budget request.

Instead, he got cornered twice, and by the end, he was reduced to screaming about "Trump derangement syndrome" at a sitting United States senator.

Senator Jon Ossoff opened by honoring the sacrifices of American service members — expressing "immense gratitude and admiration" for Georgians who served, along with condolences for the four killed in action and hopes for recovery for the nearly 100 wounded over just the last two weeks. Two weeks. Not at the start of this war. Now.

Then Ossoff got to the numbers. Hegseth is requesting $67 billion in emergency supplemental funding to keep this war funded — a staggering sum for a conflict Trump promised would last "four to five weeks."

But Ossoff's sharpest moment came when he read Hegseth's own words back to him. On day 14 of this war, nearly five months ago, Hegseth publicly declared Iran's military had been "destroyed" and "made combat ineffective." Confronted with that claim today, Hegseth had no choice but to walk it back in real time, admitting Iran's military capabilities are merely at "the lowest level they've been in a very long time" — a far cry from "destroyed."

But it was Senator Gary Peters who really lit the fuse. Peters pointed out that Iran's missiles hitting recent targets are somehow MORE lethal and maneuverable than before, that the Strait of Hormuz — open before Trump's war — remains closed, driving up prices for everyone, and that American service members are still dying. "So what's different, Secretary Hegseth?" he asked.

Hegseth didn't answer. He attacked. He accused Peters of "smearing the sacrifice of the troops" and thundered, "Shame on you." When Peters asked plainly whether Iran's nuclear material is still there, Hegseth dodged into a speech about troop "intensity."

Then Peters delivered the line of the day: "You, sir, are the failure. Not the men and women who are on that front line... but if there's a lack of a winning strategy, their leaders have failed them. You don't have a strategy. When will you show leadership?"

Hegseth's response was pure deflection: "Why don't you show some leadership and stand up for your fellow Democrats who won't fund the troops... you have Trump derangement syndrome and can't actually commit to anything meaningful."

Peters wasn't having it: "You have over a trillion dollars. It's not a question of money. It's a question of leadership."

Chair Susan Collins had to gavel the hearing closed before Hegseth could dig himself any deeper.

Nearly five months into a war Trump promised would take five weeks. $67 billion requested. American troops still dying. And when confronted with hard questions, America's Secretary of Defense chose to scream insults rather than answer for his own failures.

BREAKING: Trump’s golden arch POWER GRAB looks to GUT the preservation law meant to protect historic sites.

Donald Trump wants a 250-foot golden triumphal arch built in the heart of Washington DC — despite the fact that it violates height limits, hasn't received required congressional approval, and would block sacred sightlines between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.

And now, according to a new Atlantic report, his administration is quietly rigging the rules to ram it through anyway.

The scheme centers on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, a law requiring federal agencies to consult with preservation experts and create binding plans to AVOID damaging historic sites before construction.

Trump's handpicked vice chair on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is now pushing to gut that requirement — allowing officials to simply "minimize" harm rather than avoid it, and to write the mitigation plan AFTER approval instead of before.

In other words, build first, pretend to care later.

Law professor Sara Bronin summed it up bluntly: "If adopted, these regulations will be challenged in court, and I doubt they will survive judicial scrutiny."

And the legal gymnastics don't stop there. The arch would tower well beyond DC's federal 130-foot height limit, so the administration is simply claiming that century-old law doesn't apply to federal buildings — despite nothing in the statute saying so.

For congressional approval, the Justice Department is citing a completely unrelated 1925 bridge design that included some columns, columns that were actually REMOVED from the final plan by President Hoover, as somehow constituting authorization for Trump's golden monstrosity a hundred years later.

The National Park Service's own assessment found the arch would damage the historic character of the National Mall landscape. Public comments called it a "garish, tasteless eyesore" and a "McMonument." Veterans have sued to block it, arguing it would obliterate sacred sightlines between Arlington and the Memorial Bridge. Americans oppose it more than 2-to-1.

None of that matters to Trump. He wants his golden arch, he wants it now, and he's willing to rewrite federal preservation law itself to get it — turning hallowed, solemn ground into a monument to his own ego.

The big question is: When will Congress grow the cojones to stop this out-of-control narcissist?

I spent the last few months talking to people across the political spectrum, and to people who want nothing to do with politics at all. Here is what I learned.

We are not a divided country. We are a country being divided, on purpose, by an American oligarchy that profits from the fight. They’ve captured our government, denied our healthcare, looted our treasury, and saddled us with crippling debt.

I believe in a New New Deal. Healthcare as a human right. The right of every family to a decent home, and an end to endless wars.

And a dividend paid to every American from the AI economy, because these machines were built on the whole of human inheritance. That inheritance belongs to all of us, and not just to the handful of men playing God with our very existence.

And none of it happens if we just move on. Donald Trump, his family, and his administration are robbing us blind, not just of our money, but of our faith in one another, and they have to answer for it. Truth and reconciliation, not revenge. Then we break the system that let them do it.

The question is not whether we will lose our democracy. The question is whether we will fight to take back what has already been stolen.

I learned in recovery that you can’t heal what you won’t name. Neither can a country.
