I'm very proud to release Flowsta Vault 1.0.
Before this release, Vault was an add-on to the Flowsta Website. Now it's the front door.
This release makes a lot possible behind the scenes, but I'm most excited about the resilience it gives Flowsta. True P2P powered by Holochain.
If our Google Cloud servers went away tomorrow (who knows these days?) Flowsta's main functions would continue.
This being @GETDWeb Camp this week made for an interesting time for this release. You may have remembered a few years back when they had the challenge to keep the devices running when they turned the Internet off. Holochain wasn't quite ready for it then. But with this Flowsta release, we have the functionality that would have made that possible in Flowsta now.
Flowsta Vault now has built-in bootstrap server redundancy. The bootstrap server is a server that Holochain needs for its DHT nodes to gossip or share data. So if the net goes down and a bootstrap server isn't reachable, then before this, Holochain would stop gossiping. Now, if you're on a Local Area Network and the Internet goes down, Vault will keep gossip going for agents that have already connected.
This is just the first step towards our bigger goal of a mesh network that runs completely without the Internet.
It's important to say that with this release, we retired our custodial Holochain key holding on our Google Servers. This was our experiment to enable Holochain Web login. It worked functionally, but in real-world use over the past few months, we found an issue that would have made it completely unscalable.
This wasn't a Holochain issue; it was us using it in a way that Holochain wasn't designed to do. Basically, having that many source chains on one server. Even a big server like ours created so much gossip that the servers were running too hard. Even with a few hundred users, it was having issues. We could have grown it like that for a while, but it would have been literally impossible to scale to millions of users. So, a hot tip for any Holochain devs thinking about custodial holding of keys. We highly recommend against it.
This forced our hand to do the real resilience work Flowsta Vault 1.0 now has and has set us up for the next stages to get to the next level regarding resilience and offline use.
The cost of this is that you must install Flowsta Vault for Flowsta to work anywhere. It also means that mobile use is limited right now. So we will prioritise Flowsta Vault for mobile as soon as we can.
Existing Flowsta users will be able to migrate from the legacy system. Download Vault and choose to log in with email and password. This is the migration service and will only work once.
For new users, simply download Vault and create a new identity.
With the new system, you'll be required to have a 24-word recovery phrase. Please write that down and keep it in a safe place. If you lose it, you can't get back into Flowsta. We can't reset it or access. It's the whole point of our zero-knowledge system.
You'll notice on the Your Data page the ability to export your data. This includes 3rd party Holochain apps like ProofPoll or our upcoming @yourownai that integrate with Flowsta Vault. When you export, it exports all your Holochain data, including your keys. This is required for the Cryptographic Autonomy License (CAL 1.0) that Holochain is licensed by. It's a manual export and import now, but we'll make that automatic at some stage too.
Of course, you can start signing your creations and documents with Sign It, which is included in Vault as well.
There's a lot to it now, and it opens up so much more in the future. Remember its all open source, so you don't have to take our word on anything. Have a look at the source code.

We're really excited to release Flowsta Vault 1.0.
More than a minor update, it's the piece that makes Flowsta truly P2P. If our Google Cloud hosting went down today, all major functions of Flowsta would continue to run.
All made possible by Holochain.

In 2 years, you will be able to run any AI model locally offline.
The models you can run offline are already great. But over the next few years, there will be fewer and fewer reasons to use online models.
Web search and up-to-date info will be the main reasons, imho.
@sama It shouldn't be too hard to create great models/software and clearly communicate what it does and doesn't do.
Keep the ego, grandstanding and gaslighting out of it, please..
Not planning on a token or even an MCC in the foreseeable future.
For monetising, there are 3 options for monetising.
1) Flowsta Developers - To integrate Flowsta into Websites or apps, we offer a very generous free tier. But also paid tiers for extended usage.
2) Flowsta Premium - All standard default uses of Flowsta are free. But we have premium tiers. Currently they offer extra Sign It signatures per month, paid support, but will soon offer automated backups of Flowsta and 3rd party Holochain apps.
3) Your Own AI. By default, Your Own AI is an offline first open source privacy AI. But optionally, you can turn on Online models and we charge for that.
We will only ever charge for real utility. We will never charge a % of people's transactions, as that goes against my core p2p principles.

There's a lot there. Perhaps after you've had a chance to check out Your Own AI and its docs, it will be time for a well overdue call.
But before then, when you say Holochain is on top of the chain when it comes to deterministic computation. Is it because of the attestation Holochain brings throughout? Or am I missing what you mean by deterministic computation and nondeterministic computation?
Hot on the heels of Flowsta Vault v1.0, we just dropped v1.1.
We made the export and import functions on the Your Data page do more and have a far nicer user experience.

Can't wait for @YourOwnAI !
Bring it on.
The place of AI is on p2p networks like Holochain.
This is where AI will be trusted, because you can prove to others what went into the AI process, not on proprietary platforms.
This is where you can clearly make a distinction between human and AI.
This is how we end the truth crisis that plagues the web2 world.
This is where AI itself will develop faster and better, as collaborative AI-to-AI and AI-to-human.
This is where AI-assisted collective intelligence will truly emerge.
Driving a manual car could help keep your brain sharp and even reduce the risk of dementia, according to a new study from Japan.
Researchers found using a traditional three-pedal manual transmission puts more demand on the brain than driving an automatic, helping support cognitive function and mental health.
Oops, I missed the 31st birthday of Sausage Software and HotDog.
Couldn't imagine I'd be building the software I am today without the lessons from those days.
Thanks, @Steveouttrim1, and the rest of the team.
On June 29, 1995, the Australian software company Sausage Software officially released the first version of the HotDog 1.0 web editor.
