Overnight activity across the U Street corridor and near Howard University led to multiple police responses and investigations.

According to preliminary information gathered on scene and witness accounts:
• Officers responded to a conflict involving multiple individuals.
• On the corner of V and14th Street NW, a man was accused of assaulting a college-aged individual. Witnesses at the scene also alleged the man was in possession of drugs.
• Mace was deployed during one incident, with both an officer and a bystander later received treatment.
• Police also investigated a shooting near Howard University while searching for as many as four male suspects reportedly dressed in dark clothing.
• Officers later worked to clear traffic congestion near 9th & U Street NW.

All information is preliminary and based on on-scene observations, witness statements, and visible police activity. Investigations remain ongoing and charges are allegations unless proven in court.

Separately, MPD was also responding to reports of a shot fired near the intersections of 9th and G Streets NW, which generated multiple 911 calls and a heavy police presence downtown.

One individual was detained during the response related to the shot fired.

The incident comes just shortly after the D.C. Council approved permanent youth curfew legislation aimed at addressing large gatherings and “teen takeovers” in areas like U Street and Navy Yard.
