rock music used to be so mainstream to the point that there would be multiple rock bands that everyone knew regardless of the type of music they listened to. you could be someone who only listened to ballads or r&b but would be very familiar with at least 5 rock bands

now rock music is mainly living on the older iconic bands like green day or coldplay that have been popular for decades. no new rock bands have seen that level of mainstream success and the genre is slowly turning niche. there might be a small few that have seen some moderate success but it’s not comparable at all to the previous decades.

most of the general public cannot name these new rock bands and that’s just the harsh truth
