It’s wild that Aaron Swartz was aggressively prosecuted for scraping JSTOR articles.
Meanwhile huge companies routinely scrape the public internet and sell it for $20/month and all is well.
Aaron helped create RSS, Creative Commons, Markdown and a little site called Reddit (which now ironically sells its data to AI companies) - all by the age of 26.
All he wanted was free and open access to information. Really makes you wonder the dent he’d have made on the world if he was still alive today.
🚨Turn off new default Twitter audio and video calling feature to prevent unwanted interactions🚨
Just went to my direct message settings here and found audio and video calling enabled by default (new feature, rolling out over time).
Highly recommend disabling this to prevent unwanted calls, contact, and potential harassment.
If this is going to exist, it should be opt in only (not require opting out — an action that many won’t know to take).
In 🇳🇱 the NL-Alert system is tested every first Monday of the month. If such test scared 70% of people, it may suggest that the federal government should do this more often.
Was this really necessary? The federal government just scared 70%+ of American with this alert. This is way too much Federal Government for me. FM/AM radio and Broadcast TV is plenty to get your alerts out.
The Las Vegas Council unanimously approved the Boring Company's plan to build 68 miles of Tesla's tunnel (unproven technology) in 15.5 minutes. In the same meeting, they spent 52 minutes discussing whether a homeowner should be allowed to build a vestibule...
@anothercohen The reality is that this guy (who is independently wealthy) did no actual work, claimed as his excuse that he had a disability that prevented him from typing, yet was simultaneously tweeting up a storm.
Can’t say I have a lot of respect for that.
Shakespeare, Orwell, Tolkien, TV programs such as “Yes, Minister”, … have all been flagged as dangerous right wing literature by the “Prevent” scheme set up in the UK as a counter-terrorism program. https://t.co/EiK22DAaoX
