Though death is unfortunately common with the acuity of my unit, I never take caring for them lightly. And though I may have not known them, they were known for and loved by their people. And it’s an honor to be their nurse.

The thing that has surprised me the most since becoming a nurse is the amount of family members who have taken me aside and hugged me/thanked me for caring for their loved one after they passed.
It’s moments like that which remind me how we all need eachother.

@TheRealRhllor This is what people don't get. When they say there are no BEDS they're not talking about FURNITURE! It means there isn't enough staff/HCW. You can't just stick people in beds & leave them there without care! Otherwise they might as well be lying in bed at home.

Just because *most* people who come down with this variant are able to get better at home, doesn’t mean vulnerable populations are, too. Working in the ICU, we never care for the majority. But they still matter and we still do everything for them. Let’s not forget.

Working in the COVID icu has taught me a lot about myself and a lot about humanity.

I still believe people hold their values based on their own experiences. I don’t fault them for this.

I simply wish they dared enough to step outside their own and consider someone else’s.
