I am one of those people from the math questions... I had to get 6 cases of pop with 24 cans each. How many cans did I buy? #EDUC4173

@AngeM46518832 epic

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

@mannonleigh123 If you use manipulatives both can be learned at the same time using number families :)

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

@evelina_pace @AngeM46518832 Games as well :)

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

@mannonleigh123 Also food!

Manipulatives show part-part-whole, joining/taking away, and comparing so kids learn addition & subtraction at the same time. #EDUC4173

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

When teaching addition and subtraction use manipulatives and problem based learning - not worksheets! #EDUC4173

#elemmathchat I'm a student teacher and haven't actually taught math yet. How much of a lesson can/should be devoted to PBL? #EDUC4173

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

#elemmathchat the only way to gain knowledge from a problem is to work with it #EDUC4173

#elemmathchat Discussion afterwards is essential because students can learn strategies from each other! #EDUC4173

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

#elemmathchat Games are a fun way to solve problems, which can for used to figure out math or other things #EDUC4173

When we want to see how students understand a problem? #elemmathchat #EDUC4173

[Steve Wyborney @SteveWyborney]

A0: I'm excited about the open-ended problems. Open-ended problems open possibilities for learners of all ages. #elemmathchat

Excited for my first twitter chat ever! #elemmathchat #EDUC4173

This is my first Twitter chat ever... how do I join? #edtechmath #EDUC4173

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

I think that fractions should be used colloquially, but equations should be done in decimal form. SO MUCH EASIER! #EDUC4173

[Erin Patstone @erinpatstone]

Use a plate with a circle drawn on. Take things out of circle and get kids to count down while taking away. 0 is an empty circle! #EDUC4173
