IVF, environmental factors, birth control, contraception, abortion, medical care, sex work, racism, colonialism, queer, STIs and so much more are all part of reproductive justice. There’s so much more to fight for #Rterms
I feel like I had been so sheltered from harsh realities of reproductive justice. This class has given me the opportunity to learn history that is not written by old white guys, and to be exposed to the detrimental effects of colonialism and racism #Rterms
I know how important it is now to take a step back and realize my privilege and work even harder for others to get equal access to all entities #Rterms
Highly recommend watching “follow this” on Netflix. Specifically the episodes “whore’s day”, “men’s rights” and “who’s embryo”. The later inspired my topic for the final paper. #Rterms
I’m curious about others opinions. Gender reveals for babies?? Do you think it’s an oppressive sanction that is perpetrated through a hetero/cis-normative society? #Rterms
@RjgNotorious As a former gymnast I’m very familiar with this case unfortunately. Gymnastics is a hot spot for manipulative professionals to take advantage of vulnerable girls. Props to the judge and all the women that came forward to speak their truth #Rterms
@jujurules1 100%. If they can’t perform their duties objectively then they shouldn’t be in the field. Medical professional are suppose to be serving THE PUBLIC, not who they view is deserving of such care #Rterms
#BlackMaternalHealthWeek starts tomorrow, y'all!
Black mothers are 4x as likely to die due to pregnancy than WW & their babies are 2x as likely to die than those of WW.
@BlkMamasMatter put together this wonderful resource to promote maternal health: https://t.co/wHFv7hGs4h
@traymond_sfu Bless your soul!! There needs to be more people like you in positions of power. You are educated and well rounded and someone I now trust who sits on council. Love that you did your research and hit them with FACTS #Rterms... thankful for this class
“As long as women’s bodies - and abortion - remain medicalized, as long as physicians remain the gatekeepers to abortion procedures, women will continue to endure reproductive oppression” #Rterms
The irony of how sex work advertisements were caught due to tax evasion is humorous. How do you pay legitimate taxes for illegimate work? But then get busted for not paying your taxes on that work? #Rterms
Kitty talking about safe calls when going on apps, reminds me of women now a days letting a friend know where and when they are meeting with a man on an online dating forum etc. What does this say about women's safety when it comes to sexual situations? #Rterms
Bawdy houses are preferred in the terms of safety for sex workers, but these are illegal to protect the integrity of the worker? How does that make sense. These people are forced out due to fears of exposure and increased illegality #Rterms
In contrast to this her experience in the U.K when she was forced to call the police who actually ended up getting back stolen money from a client. She was able to be honest and communicate with client's for safety, despite the legality of it #Rterms
Really interesting to hear a first person perspective of Kitty as being a sex worker in the U.S, and her take on the legislation around advertising for services. Sex work was originally allowed to be sold on craigslist; however not specifics #Rterms
It disallowed those from posting what exactly they were willing to do and for how much pay. This created problems with miscommunication that led to dangerous situations for the sex workers #Rterms
Loved that Kitty mentioned privilege in sex work. Being thin, white, cis-gender and straight allows you to create your own niche within the industry. Whereas when you aren't of those things, you are required to be able to do and offer a lot more #Rterms
