I know that vengeance will at last be mine
I will not break this time
I know that vengeance will at last be mine, time is ticking awayโฆticking away
If I can leave the past behind, thatโs been crippling meโฆsickening meโฆ
I feel compelled to tell you this story in a way that I cannot explain. So I got out of bed and I wrote it down.
History doesnโt repeat itself, but it rhymes a little.
Two hundred fifty years ago, 34 year old Dr, Joseph Warren, a prominent Patriot leader, husband and father, became a martyr for the American experiment when he fell at the Battle of Bunker (Breeds) Hill in June of 1775.
Joseph Warren was a physician, Sons of Liberty leader and Boston Committee of Correspondence member, who fiercely opposed British rule. He wrote the Suffolk Resolves, led the Massachusetts Provisional Congress, and organized the midnight rides of Paul Revere, William Dawes, Samuel Prescott, and Israel Bissell.
Dr. Warren was beloved. He was a gifted orator, selfless and fearless. That day, he insisted on fighting in the trenches rather than on the hill overseeing the men. So despite his rank, he fought as a private.
But Joseph Warren was recognized by the soulless redcoats, and for simply being who he was, he was brutally killed in cold blood. Shot in the head, his body desecrated, and buried in a shallow grave.
A British officer celebrated, gloating, โWe stuffed the scoundrel with another rebel into one hole, and there he and his seditious principles may remain.โ
Dr. Joseph Warren was the one with the bright future and everybody wondered who he would have become.
Charlie Kirk, you are our Joseph Warren.
Now, Joseph Warren had Paul Revere, a loyal friend who for eight months, searched for him, IDโd his body, gave him a proper burial, named a child after him, and never ever let the world forget the Legacy of his amazing friend, Dr. Joseph Warren.
Today, and every day forward, we are all Paul Revere.
The divisive politics in this country, those that push them, and the media that are only too eager to fan the flames for the sake of ratings, are getting people killed.
They all have blood on their hands
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox's message to those who "celebrated" Charlie Kirk's death:
"If anyone in the sound of my voice celebrated even a little bit at the news of this shooting, I would beg you to look in the mirror and to see if you can find a better angel in there somewhere."
Charlie Kirk was more committed to peaceful, open dialogue with those who disagreed with him than anyone I know. God blessed him with immense gifts, and he used them boldly and without fear. He knew the risks he was taking, but he did it anyway because he loved his kids & felt a responsibility to the nation they would inhabit. I traveled the entire country with him last year, we spent 1x1 time together in Ohio two weeks ago, spoke to him again 2 days ago. Heโs long warned of the rise of political violence & the growing culture of assassination, when few were willing to listen, with a clarity of vision unlike anyone Iโve known. Completely and utterly devastated.
