LFB Vets Fall Short in Vets cup Final
On Saturday, London Fire Brigade Vets travelled to @SixwaysStadium aiming to retain the @ESFL20 Vets cup.
Lancashire Police Vets stood in their way and edged a tight final 1-0.
Lancashire started strongly, creating two early chances, but LFB goalkeeper Charlie Hassler produced excellent saves to keep the scores level.
LFB responded well and enjoyed long spells of possession, creating opportunities but lacking the finishing touch. The game became a hard-fought midfield battle, and neither side could break the deadlock before halftime.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with LFB pushing forward and Lancashire’s goalkeeper making several important saves.
The decisive moment came when Lancashire delivered a ball into the box and an attempted LFB clearance looped over the goalkeeper for an unfortunate own goal, giving Lancashire a 1-0 lead.
Play was later halted after an incident in midfield left LFB player Gary with a broken leg. After treatment on the pitch, the match resumed.
With around 25 minutes remaining, London pressed hard for an equaliser but were denied by resilient defending and missed chances. Lancashire also threatened on the counter, but another fine save from Hassler kept LFB in the game.
Despite continued pressure, LFB could not find a way through, and Lancashire held on to claim the Vets cup with a 1-0 victory.
It was a disappointing end to an otherwise successful season for LFB Vets, but credit goes to Lancashire Police Vets for their hard-fought win.
Everyone at LFB Vets congratulates Lancashire on their success and sends best wishes to Gary for a full and speedy recovery.

A warm summer afternoon, London Fire Brigade Veterans booked their place in the @ESFL20 Veterans Final with a hard earned 4–1 victory over Nottinghamshire Police Veterans in a competitive semi-final at @nptfc
Both sides started with good intensity and looked to establish control early on. It was an evenly contested opening, but London settled well, retaining possession effectively and limiting Nottinghamshire to very few clear opportunities while looking dangerous going forward themselves.
That positive start was rewarded with two early goals, giving London a 2–0 advantage. Despite the scoreline, the game remained competitive, with Nottinghamshire continuing to push and trying to work a route back into the contest. London remained composed and managed to add a third before half-time, giving themselves a strong lead heading into the break.
With the heat playing a factor, both teams made changes during the second half. London began brightly again, but a penalty allowed Nottinghamshire to reduce the deficit to 3–1 and shift momentum. From there, Nottinghamshire enjoyed more possession and applied sustained pressure, pinning London back at times and forcing errors. Their determination and energy kept London on the back foot, though they were unable to turn promising possession in the final third into further goals.
London worked hard to regain control and created chances of their own, but couldn’t quite find the final touch in front of goal. As the game wore on and tiredness began to show, Nottinghamshire continued to push for a second and made it a tense finish.
However, in the closing stages London broke forward and found a fourth goal to seal the win and confirm their place in the final.
A huge thank you to @nottspolice vets for a competitive and well-contested fixture played in great spirit. We wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season and for next year.
Thank you to @nptfc for hosting our fixtures and the great facilities
Attention now turns to the final, where London Fire Brigade Veterans will face @LancsPolice vets at @SixwaysStadium on Saturday 6th June.

@HertsPolice vets 2 - 4 @LFBfootballclub
Goals: N Mottley 2, B Wood, D Fenton
Man of the match: N Mottley
LFB FC came from behind to secure a 4–2 win over Hertfordshire Police. A slow start saw LFB struggle to find their rhythm, allowing Hertfordshire to take the lead from a counter-attack. LFB responded well to level the game at 1–1, but Hertfordshire struck again in similar fashion to go 2–1 up heading into half-time.
Despite going in behind, LFB had begun to build momentum towards the end of the first half, creating chances that were kept out by an impressive Hertfordshire goalkeeper. That momentum carried into the second half, with LFB starting quickly and dominating possession.
LFB equalised early in the second half before a superb free-kick from the skipper put them 3–2 ahead. With control of the game, LFB added a fourth to secure the win, while Hertfordshire showed resilience throughout despite sustained pressure.
