If Yoruba landlords really start telling stories about their Igbo tenants, plenty things go surface

Imagine this Igbo man ,he begged for just a small space to sell phone chargers. The landlord travelled for years. By the time he came back, the guy don already build three shops on top the land, planning to rent them out. No permission, no discussion ,just straight Nzobu Nzobu mindset.

If they now demolish it, he’ll rush online to twist the story: “They demolished an Igbo man’s shop… they hate Igbos.”

Truth be told, a lot of these things actually happen. Some people go find empty land, even fill canal, build house without asking questions or getting approval. Years later when the government finally steps in to do their job and clears those structures, na the same people go come online dey cry victim.

That’s the part nobody likes to talk about.

How it happened.

trouble started between the Deji and Igbo residents, following the installation of an Igbo man as the chairman of one of the markets in Akure by the Eze-Ndigbo.

Oba Aladetoyinbo was said to have been angry, having felt that it was a taboo for an Igbo man to rule over a market in Akure.

It was gathered that the Akure monarch immediately summoned Iloehike but that to his surprise, the Eze-Ndigbo wore his crown to the Deji’s palace, an action said to be against the tradition of Akure.
Irked by his attitude and responses to allegations leveled against him, the Chiefs and some youths who were in the palace ordered him to remove his crown.

Deji of Akure was said to have suspended him from parading himself as Eze-Ndigbo.

This development sent a wrong signal to the Igbo residents, who mobilized themselves to the palace, ordering the Deji to reverse his earlier statement on Iloehike.

But they were unlucky as Akure youths flogged them out of the palace.

Since the incident occurred on Tuesday, the Igbos, who dominate the Oba-Adesida road have refused to open for business.

Rather, on Wednesday morning, they converged on their secretariat located at Gbogi Street, Akure as early as 7.00am and warned the Akure monarch against his plan to dethrone the Eze Ndigbo.

They insisted that the traditional ruler had no power to dethrone Iloehike.

The embattled Eze Ndigbo explained that he had not been rude to the Deji of Akure since he ascended the throne about six months ago, adding that he contributed immensely to the installation of the monarch.

According to him “the Deji called me around 8.48pm last sunday inviting me to his palace and I honoured his invitation on monday morning. I went with one of my Chiefs, but when I got to the palace, I saw youths numbering over 200 who started shouting as I entered. I suspected that the youths were mobilized by the monarch and I showed respect to the Deji by prostrating for him.

“The monarch while addressing me at his palace threatened to drive all the Igbos in Akure out of the city and when I asked for the offence my people committed, the youths at the palace descended on me. They tore my beads and removed my crown. They attempted to beat me but the Police officers at the Palace rescued me.”.

The Eze Ndigbo said the invitation by the monarch was the first he would receive from him since the monarch ascended the throne, pointing out that Igbos had been living harmoniously in Akure for over 70 years without friction with the natives..

To get Jonathan out of office, they all left the PDP.

Atiku, Saraki, Amaechi, Tambuwal, El-Rufai, Kwankwaso, Nyako, Wamakko etc.

Atiku’s was the most despicable.

He had met with President Jonathan and when the President appealed to him to support him in the then coming 2015 presidential election, he said that he (GEJ) should hand over to him (Atiku) the PDP presidential ticket.

A former vice president asking an incumbent president to hand him the party’s ticket because that president was from a minority group while he is from one of the country’s majority ethnic groups.

Of course, Jonathan said no.

So the exodus from PDP continued but it was to the advantage of the APC and anything that would make Buhari win was ‘good’ as far as I was concerned (and I am still concerned).

Nyesom Wike, Sule Lamido, Bode George, Ayo Fayose etc stood by their party.

PDP was going to become lifeless but Wike, in particular, gave her a life saving oxygen.

It was because of Wike especially that PDP only went into coma instead of being certified dead.

Immediately they got to the newly formed APC, two of them - Atiku and Kwankwaso wanted the party’s presidential ticket.

Buhari was disturbed because he had no war chest to compete with the duo in a party primary. He could not even compete with Okorocha who also wanted the ticket.

Tinubu assured him of victory.

The first step he (Tinubu) took was to fix the primary at his base - Lagos.

The second step was that he ensured that none of his ACN contingent in his new APC contested for the ticket and that included his ACN men from the north.

The third was that he picked Dr Kayode Fayemi as the chairman of that convention.

Then the day came and after the exercise, Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner after spending next to nothing against Atiku especially.

Jonathan lost to Buhari in the general election and more PDP top shots left the party but all those listed above stayed.

Saraki was the Atiku group’s point man and since the Buhari group had taken the president’s position and the Tinubu group had taken the vice president’s slot, the Atiku group felt that they should take the senate president’s office and out of desperation, they took it but in the most dishonour and despicable manner.

They slowed down that wheel of progress of the Buhari government in his first term and so APC decided to get rid of them and they did.

Then, they returned to the PDP where Wike and others were left with no choice than to welcome them back.

They came back so that they could challenge Buhari in 2019.

Wike threw his support to Tambuwal and like Tinubu did for Buhari, Wike took the primary to Port Harcourt but unlike Tinubu, his preferred aspirant, Tambuwal lost to Atiku.

Atiku then picked Obi as his running mate against President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and they were roundly beaten by the late fPMB.

In 2023, Buhari would complete his eight years rule and so every Nigerian who has an iota of fairness in him as well as respect for other geopolitical zone in the country felt that it should be the turn of the south especially going by the fact that the northern part of the country has ruled more than the south two times over at the very least.

So Wike, who never left the PDP when others left and who sustained the party when it was in political ICU threw his hat into the ring.

But surprisingly, at the 2022 PDP presidential primary at the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja, Tambuwal, who was also an aspirant and who had already delivered his speech, was allowed by Iyorchia Ayu to speak the second time whereas voting was supposed to be the next thing.

And when he spoke, he spoke in favour of a northern conspiracy against the man who stood by the party when they left in search of a presidential ticket in APC.

Ayu, another northerner declared him hero of democracy.

It took Akanbi less than 2 years to become General Auditor, not to brag, but it may interest you that Bola ended up bossing the man who interviewed him. Success is only a matter of Luck, Ask any Failure. The exploits we see Asiwaju make in politics today, began yesterday as an Accountant.

A corporate auditor was dispatched from London, reviewed the report, and urged Akanbi to fire away in his new capacity. Akanbi took full charge - and then, as expected... or perhaps, as only Akanbi could deliver the unexpected:

Alaye fired everybody in the Treasury Department. Save only the stenographer.

Akanbi brought in new hands from the audit department, people he's worked with and familiar with their competence.
