@JosephineUCR@abhornUCRedu I completely agree with you Josephine! These student athletes are pushed beyond limits to be the best but aren’t even treated equally as their peers they lack resources in their school community making it impossible their best selfs @annaaacha#ucr150
African American college athletes don’t receive the same support academically or have the same resources available to them as their peers, putting them at a disadvantage low graduation rates and increasing the chances of retaking courses @annaaacha#ucr150
@Grace_P_Bacon@annaaacha Hi Grace, I completely agree with you as time goes on there more and more being uncovered about the NCAA and their mistreatment of student-athletes. Especially when it comes to amateurism athletes are being over worked! #ucr150@annaaacha
“Student-athletes” they are always talked about behind students first but the NCAA allows coaches to overwork their athletes making them have to decide between school/sports they are students first and shouldn’t be belittled for wanting an education #ucr150@annaaacha
@Alicia_Rendon11@abhornUCRedu Hi Alicia, I completely agree with you student athletes are not being treated equally and are even give a difficult time when trying to transfer making it feel impossible to transfer they are student too and should be treated as such #ucr150@annaaacha
Being a student athlete already comes with a lot of stress, but the NCAA claiming student athletes are part of the student body yet they have restrictions when wanting to transfer to another university, NCAA needs to hold themselves to their own standards @annaaacha#ucr150
@NMurasmith011@abhornUCRedu Hi Noah! I completely agree! Coaches should become more educated in concussions and treat head injuries as if they were all concussions it’s better to be over protected then facing life threatening consequences #UCR150@annaaacha
Lack of appropriate knowledge of concussion symptoms should not be a normalized underreporting concussions it can lead to serious problems down the road when undetected and sent back to play I was generally really surprised coaches were letting it happen @annaaacha#UCR150
@mguti159@annaaacha Hi Marcy, it is extremely unfair and for women to have such a big disadvantage we would think that since it was passed in 1972! More needs to be done for women athletics @annaaacha#UCR150
Title IX made incredible progress in women’s sports, there is now 12 intercollegiate aspects where equal treatment takes place but there is still improvements that can be done to be more inclusive and accommodating to everyone like promoting women sports #UCR150@annaaacha
@reehirmiz@annaaacha I completely agree with you student athletes of color often depend on those scholarships to pay for their education! So schools are taking advantage of a vulnerable group of students to benefit their sports teams @annaaacha#UCR150
Student-athletes being told that once they commit to the college they were offered to play at they will receive a scholarship many a 4 year one but instead it’s a 1 year scholarship which often limits there career choices since they aren’t guaranteed anything! @annaaacha#ucr150
@lisscastrom@annaaacha Well said Lissette I completely agree with you! Athletes are overworked and expected to keep up with their school work yet not being give anything in return not even their scholarships are guaranteed to be renewed! @annaaacha#ucr150
@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar It is really sad to find out institutions favor white and affluent student over those students of color from low income backgrounds. Through loopholes schools admissions aren’t race-neutral, even with programs intended to help students of color, White applicants are privileged.
@mchoc006@TA_ED50 Hi Maya, I completely agree with you students of color and those disadvantaged aren’t treated the same as affluent white students. Even with race-neutral being implemented in schools white students are preferred and almost always admitted over others @abhornUCRedu#UCR50
Institutions are still favoring white and wealthy athletes over those who are disadvantaged. Even with the AxE process created to benefit disadvantaged students. White students are still favored by admissions over anyone. #UCR50@abhornUCRedu
@lisscastrom@abhornUCRedu Hi Lissette I agree with your statement I found it crazy that many universities even hire someone to consistently monitor their players social media accounts and sometimes require their passwords @abhornUCRedu#UCR50
The NCAAs amateur principle prohibits athletes promoting themselves and reaching certain goals they may have in the business world things include their name, athletic reputation, and pictures @abhornUCRedu#UCR50
