@pet3rpan_ Crypto is not a problem in search of a solution.
It's a solution people want.
The problem is the lack of talent building the dapps people want.
#DeFi is great, but gaming is still the sleeping giant nobody has tackled at scale just yet.
@pet3rpan_ But, if you're an actual developer interested in decentralization?
Go and build dapps.
There won't be anyone looking your way at first. But then the phone notifications start. And then they keep coming.
@no89thkey@VitalikButerin@celer_x Really take that in for a moment: we moved from absolute freedom to just two world-dictators.
I'd say "it's like moving from the US to North Korea"... But shaky real life comparisons can't even work, because the scale of this change has no counterpart in the real world.
@no89thkey@VitalikButerin@celer_x Honestly, I feel it's crazy we moved from desktop systems where anyone could distribute their programs to a couple app stores where gigacorporations act as censors/curators in just a decade.
Even crazier, we think this is OK and find excuses for them. Stockholm Syndrome!
@haydenzadams If Gavin writing fiction about diddling the underage must be considered "fair and intended use" of free speech, then it surely becomes morally permissible for a blockchain company to actively support pedophilia.
Looking forward to see Polkadot take a stand in public!
@MicahZoltu@nicksdjohnson Do you think warning labels are useless because very dumb people will find a way to eat paint anyway?
"tx.origin != msg.sender" has saved my contracts from many attackers (who attacked other similar contracts).
It's not about being foolproof, but about effort vs reward.
@IslandHunting@gregthegreek@TrustlessState I'm not convinced any of the statements you make are true.
I would like to believe them too, but I don't see any evidence.
(Ok, #2 is true in the absolute. But we don't know what level of security is necessary.)
@IslandHunting@gregthegreek@TrustlessState If you want to maximize the amount of talent working on Ethereum, it's easier to make the case for the price going down than the price going up.
Price going up benefits the small group that's already in.
Price going down benefits the majority of outsiders.
@IslandHunting@gregthegreek@TrustlessState So whether a particular ICO is an outright con job, or just people rewarded beyond their actual competency by a factor of 10x, 100x, 1000x... This isn't a desirable thing for the ecosystem as a whole. It affects potential competition from newer entrants.
@xi27pox@wiz Odd take. Plenty of entrepreneurs start an activity without taking on debt.
Raising funds / taking loans is more often used to crush the competition than to provide a better service.
The way the current economy works != the way it has to work
@Excellion Nobody else is going to fix your body.
Not Bitcoin.
Nor making up strange narratives about sexism.
If anything, the more you hide from your problems, the more they're bound to pop up again and again.
@matt_garnett Throw Internet speeds in there. Having just switched to fiber optic, I'm experiencing a responsive MetaMask for the first time in my life. Same goes for so many crypto websites. Developing/testing on highspeed Internet will give you a skewed vision of user experience.
@alexgausman Great take, Alex. I can understand the overall kneejerk reaction against NK. But indeed, no dictatorship is the Borg.
Historically, free exchange of information liberates people in the long run, while isolation keeps dictators in place.
