MHS students in ELD 2 presented their reports on a current event. They researched a current event of their choice, wrote a report, and presented to the class despite their nerves. They did an excellent job taking a risk and practicing their English speaking skills! ๐
@Chris_C_Barber @chriscmartell There's Visible Learning for Social Studies and the NSF's How Students Learn: History in the Classroom (free download) but not sure that's what you need. There's also the disciplinary literacy work, but that's mainly grounded in Sam Wineburg's research on historical thinking.
@dunneteach@LexingtonHSHist@AHMuseum I like them overall. I just wish they did not use ahistorical and selective framing of โWhen in the course of human events, it becomes necessaryโฆโ in their threshold and intro video.
@Calculord Sort of. When I was finishing my masters, I reached out to Carney Sandoe, w/c focuses on private schools, and filled out forms. (The biggest at the time, & I assume, still is.) After a few wks, they rejected me, saying I didn't have enough teaching experience. Chicken, meet egg.
@heymrsbond Analyzing symbols is tricky because of the abstract thought or feeling the symbol embodies. And you want them to generalize. Two sentence starters I use for symbol/figurative language are โWhen I see the word/phrase/symbol X, I think ofโฆโ and โWhen I seeโฆX, I feelโฆโ
