I was shocked to learn from a mesh injured patient today that the #RCGP tells GPs in their guidance regarding mesh….
“Reports that meshes and tapes break down within the body are currently unsubstantiated."

They also claim there is no evidence that these products cause toxicity.

There is now evidence from 2 different sources that refutes this RCGP guidance - The recent study in the BJU International and the Sheffield University study

♦️The Science (April 30, 2026):
A landmark, peer-reviewed study led by Chris Harding and researchers (published in BJU International / BJUI Compass, DOI: 10.1002/bco2.70210) directly refutes this.

♦️The Proof:
The 2026 study definitively proves that patients with mesh complications suffer from a measurable systemic immune dysregulation and altered chemical blood profiles.
♦️Their serum acts as a functional migratory stimulus, showing the body is in an active, destructive inflammatory response to the material.

This RCGP outdated guidance needs to be amended swiftly as this is effecting the nature of care being given to mesh injured patients.

Globally finding Doctors highly skilled in treating pelvic mesh complications is challenging as specialized training has yet to become a standard fellowship. Lists of Doctors treating complications for ALL surgical mesh types can be found by Googling Mesh Support Groups.
