During my Master’s studies in the US, I kept telling people that I’m going back home after graduation, and everyone would naturally ask “why”. My answer was, it’s stable and there are opportunities . As Namibians we should never take this for granted. Many don’t have the luxury.
I was 15 years old when I decided to NEVER go back to Keetmanshoop. A biggest part of my decision was my academic performance. The environment was not conducive and I knew, I wanted something better for myself than what I grew up seeing young people turn into. Today, I reflect on that decision and I thank the 15 year old BRAVE girl who decided not to get back on that Shilunga bus when the holiday came to an end! The days of going to look for firewood in the mountains, selling meat in the location and baking vat cakes immediately after school (instead of watching cartoons, doing my homework without being told “homework should wait” or simply playing with other kids in the streets of Ileni taught me resilience but it took away my childhood. I knew I had to be tough at 15 and my mother supported by decision to never go back to the South (Dad’s family). She found me a school that accommodated my language background and I never looked back. Every time, you brush yourself in self pity, you enable yourself to suffer, I never told my mother I was going through hardship but I decided to leave that place. I knew if I stayed any longer, who I am today would still be a dream. I had food, clothes and didn’t lack materialistic things but, I wanted my mother, I wanted to be a normal child, I wanted my teenage body to rest from hard labour”! I thanked my aunt for raising me in the absence of my dad but, it took a lot to forgive them, I had to forgive to heal the little girl in me that never got closure, she died in Tsumeb a few years after I left Keetmanshoop and I was there to see her during her last days.
Your life is your responsibility, every choice you make count, it doesn’t matter what age you are!!🤸♀️👍
I saw a video of a lady crying at her warehouse job abroad & it reminded me of a time: off to work at 5am, walking through the cold park alone, snowing, running to catch the bus to a job where I stood all day (no phones allowed), sometimes double shift-I used to cry too.

Y’all will be scammed through those empowerment and motivation talks until you start thinking for yourselves. How do you pay for a ridiculous amount to go listen to someone with a mic telling you basic knowledge that you are supposed to know as a learned person!!!
@joshikongo I didn’t finish reading it either. I’m just not getting anything from it at the moment. Maybe I will try again some day. But as for now, no.
