Access to justice shouldn’t be a privilege, it’s a right—and that’s why the Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) matters for every citizen. @hopebehindbar was represented by @esther_chiemeka and @victor_chapi at a @PPDC_ng stakeholder roundtable meeting to address challenges within the PDSS in Nigeria and explore strategies to improve collaboration and coordination.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to share my experience as the point person for @hopebehindbar toll-free line during the recent Nigerian End Bad Governance protest.

I am proud of both the work we did, and the role we played in supporting their rights.

Freedom of Peaceful Assembly is a powerful democratic tool for citizens to make their grievances known to their leaders.

Shutting down dissenting voices and arresting peaceful protesters not only breeds distrust, but causes significant strain on the criminal justice system. It leads to delays in Legal proceedings and overcrowding of custodial centres, putting pressure on already scarce resources.

Addressing the root cause of public concerns remains the best way to instill public trust in the system. Citizens must be allowed to use their voices to speak to power for the betterment of society.
