@Richard18177790@diskon4no Yes, this is what we do. :) Sentence prompts are great! Also very useful for writing, especially teaching writing to second language learners
@cbeaverford#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Encourage them to use their first language to ask questions and look up information on their own so they will have more background information about what we are studying in class
@cbeaverford#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Teaching them the "language" of inquiry by teachers modeling asking questions, giving them the definitions of the vocabulary they will need (like an overview sheet) at the beginning of the unit, use DRAWING
@diskon4no#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Fostering agency: giving them examples of what agency is and looks like, moving away from test-centered types of learning, giving students CHOICE in tasks and assignments
@diskon4no#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Foster agency: Doing SEL mini-lessons at the beginning of the year and throughout the year as needed so students understand what agency is, why they need to be agents of their own learning, modeling and teaching agency
@diskon4no#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Increase motivation: first build relationships and connect with the students so they know we CARE, then clearly explain the learning objectives and how they are connected to the REAL WORLD
@cbeaverford#IBECchat#NTNUCPD We model what "good inquiry questions" look like and stop throughout the lesson for them to write and ask their inquiry questions (IQs as I call it in my class) as needed.
@cbeaverford#IBECchat#NTNUCPD In every class we have one main inquiry question (IQ) we ask (in addition to our lesson objectives, ATL and Learner Profile objectives, and class agenda. We start the class by looking at the IQ and try to end the class by checking to see if we answered our IQ.
@cbeaverford#IBECchat#NTNUCPD Yes, we start the year by looking at questioning and giving the students tools for asking questions (sentence prompts, etc.) and role-play different scenarios where they need to as questions.
@cbeaverford First time joining a Twitter chat so trying to figure out to get all the tags working.
