One of the most popular content creators in this genre, who popularised the "cat in blender trend", has made over $700k.

He hasn't faced any criminal charges though, because China has no laws against animals abuse.

Exactly.
Shintani's production varies wildly in the same movie (as shown in the screenshots below). Not a good thing.

This and his work on DBS 131 are great showcases of Yamamuro's skills as AD: he understands the strengths of the artists he supervises and knows what to change and what not.

That quote just proves Shintani’s designs are easier, not better.
Top animators can elevate any design, and Shintani doesn’t even handle coloring/effects. The “polish” people praise isn’t from his designs. That’s not “evolution”; it’s simpler designs + direction being carried by animators.
Meanwhile, his models often simplify and distort proportions. Yamamuro’s (like these UI Goku cuts) keep clean anatomy, sharp structure, and consistent appeal while still animating well. Shintani's designs look like bad fan art compared to Yamamuro’s.
