For the past five years, I battled inexplicable chronic fatigue and worsening brain fog. I consulted countless doctors, all of whom failed to identify the root cause of my symptoms—and some even dismissed my concerns.
Two years ago, I lost hope.
I resigned myself to the end of the healthy version of myself:
• 11 hours of bed rest each day
• Dependence on stimulant medications just to clear my brain fog
• Longer recovery times from even light workouts
• A constant struggle with unexplained aches (especially hands), depression, anxiety and limited energy for daily life.
But on the morning of March 10th, as I logged into my @nucleusgenomics account and reviewed the results, hope surged back. I dropped everything, researched the condition, scheduled an appointment with my GP, and followed up with a full iron panel. My blood iron saturation came back at 96%—double the reference range upper bound (20%-48%)—confirming significant iron overload.
If it hadn't been for this DNA test, I fear it would have taken much longer to identify the underlying issue, potentially leading to further organ damage from the accumulating iron. Undiagnosed Hereditary Hemochromatosis can result in serious complications such as liver disease, heart problems, diabetes and ultimately failure of vital organs.
I’m sharing my story not for sympathy, but to reach others who’ve been struggling with unexplained symptoms and a hidden genetic disorder. If you feel lost, know that answers might be closer than you think.

Ethan found out the brain fog he’d had for years was actually due to undiagnosed hereditary hemochromatosis.
