@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist It’s certainly not accounted for in how the church stigmatizes, ostracizes, disciplines, or approaches people who are struggling that way. There’s still an assumption that you should be able to fully control those symptoms because you will not be tempted beyond what you are able.
@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist Lastly, there are so, so much more to mental health than depression. When mental health symptomology shows up through behaviors that are considered sinful, there is no acknowledgment of that. Where does that fall in the “not tempted beyond what you are able”?
@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist Gotcha, so anyone drawing a different conclusion is illogical? There’s a reason that so much scrupulosity shows up in Mormons, and it has to do with exactly what you are refusing to acknowledge that many Mormons experience: religious shame and toxic perfectionism.
@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist So you won’t be tempted beyond what you are able if you don’t have weaknesses? Or you won’t be tempted beyond what your ability to resist in that moment?
@maverick_jaredd @ramalad@NelsonRussellM Read the actual transcripts of the court case. The “defense” by the church literally contradicts the bishops own testimony in the case.
@WallgrenR @WarFinland Wrong, the church DOES allow it. Did that change your mind? See how uninformed and unsubstantial your reply sounds? When there is iron clad evidence and multiple first hand reports showing the church actively protected abusers more than their victims, maybe you should listen.
@_skyler_austin_ The fact that you believe differences orientation and internal experiences of gender are some ideology or “idea” shows just how ignorant you and Mormonism are on this topic. Or do you think your gender and sexuality is just an idea?
@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist So when there are extenuating circumstances such as undiagnosed mental health issues or whatnot, Mormons beat the shit out of themselves for "not being good enough" because they SHOULD have been able to do differently.
@Dmtaylor125@Ch_JesusChrist Right, when someone fails to make the "right" choice it means that it is purely their fault: their lack of strength, righteousness, willpower, good choices, etc. There is never a time where failing to make the right choice isn't about you not being good or strong enough.
@Comfort_Food@jenn_next_door Exactly how many church leaders have to be involved in the establishment of policies, helplines, trainings, etc. before it stops being just fallible humans and we can start blaming the church as an institution instead of passing the buck with the “fallible people” line?
@MingledWith@psoasiwassaying@loydo38 [2] “[If the] President of the Church, [brings forth new doctrine] he will declare it as revelation from God, and it will be so accepted by the Council of the Twelve and sustained by the body of the Church.”
President Harold B. Lee
@MingledWith@psoasiwassaying@loydo38 “If anyone were to advance a doctrine that is not substantiated by the standard Church works…you may know that his statement is merely his private opinion…and you are not bound top accept it as truth.” [1]
