▶️ Take a look at the VAR check that saw Celtic awarded a late penalty at Motherwell for handball.
At 6pm on @SkyFootball watch Scottish Football VAR Review to hear what the SFA's head of refereeing Willie Collum made of it 📺
Last night’s incident wasn’t corruption. It exposed the incompetence of our officials.
A severe lack of composure from Andrew Dallas and John Beaton, coupled with irrational decision-making, has potentially cost us someone finally breaking the Old Firm dominance we’ve suffered for over 40 years.
How can such an important decision be made from one camera angle and under 20 seconds of review? It exposes how little training these guys have for moments of this magnitude.
The idea that it’s corrupt is nonsense. The SPFL want Hearts to win the league. Neil Doncaster is judged on his ability to promote our league and bring in better TV deals and sponsorship.
Given the attention the league has had because of Hearts’ title push, the league becomes way more attractive to sponsors and broadcasters if Hearts get over the line.
It’s also more favourable for member clubs chasing investment. Potential investors looking on and seeing what’s been achieved at Hearts only makes clubs like Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee United more attractive.
That interest fades when you see what happened just as we were getting to the finish line.
That’s what makes last night so damaging.
Just when we were on the brink of breaking the norm, of crowning a new winner of our top league, the officials showed how amateur elements of our game still are.
