My new piece in @Slate, arguing that we should cancel the 2025-2026 intercollegiate athletics season.

In case you needed another reason to be angry today, here's my new (grim) piece in @Slate:
How Trump’s proposed NIH cuts expose one of the worst-kept secrets in academia. https://t.co/d0SFpI6YNA via @slate
It features excellent work by Antar Tichavakunda, Allison Palmadessa, Mike Hoa Nguyen, Barrett Taylor, Brendan Cantwell, Heather McCambly, Quinn Mulroy, Joy Ann Williamson-Lott, Jeremy Wright-Kim, and many coauthors! Major thanks to @AdriannaKezar and @kcculver for their support.
Proud to report the publication of the special issue of 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 that I co-edited with David Johnson. The theme is "Ideas and Ideologies in Higher Education Policy."

@NVEnergy@NVEnergy , you have screwed up big-time. I recognize that this was an experiment, but it's now time to admit that you were wrong, restore power, and vow to create a new process so that this kind of human error won't happen again.
@NVEnergy , you have screwed up big-time in #Reno. I recognize that this was an experiment, but it's now time to admit that you were wrong, restore power, and vow to create a new process so that this kind of human error won't happen again.
136 minute wait at the University of Nevada, Reno polling site. I'm counting and about 6-7 people, 95% of them students, are joining the line every minute. The kids are alright.
The Federal Indian Boarding School Era is one of the darkest chapters of American history. The trauma experienced in those institutions haunts our conscience to this very day.
Today, I'm in Arizona to issue a long overdue presidential apology for this era – and speak to how my Administration has worked to invest in Indian Country and our relationships with Tribal Nations, advance Tribal sovereignty and self-determination, respect Native cultures, and protect Indigenous sacred sites.
On my watch, we'll remain committed to ushering in a new era between our government and nation-to-nation relationships – one that is grounded in dignity and respect.
We must remember our full history, even when it's painful. That's what great nations do. And we are a great nation.
Can't wait to see my new book, "Degrees of Risk: Navigating Insecurity and Inequality in Public Higher Education," (@UChicagoPress) out in print next week!

It may seem like a small semantics thing, but community colleges ARE colleges, not a stepping stone to college. Lots of good research in this article, but I really encourage folks to be careful about language that makes it seem like community college isn't "real" college.
From my new piece in the @LPE_Project blog:
"Hack politicians and asshat hedge fund managers are obsessed with the utterances of Harvard students and Columbia professors. I say: let them keep it up."
