The confluence of meal, a good book, and a power nap after a long run are a near perfect trifecta for a fulfilling afternoon.
When I start to feel the urge to waste my time and money on seeking status and materiality, I can quickly ground myself in the idea that most of the things I enjoy are borderline free.
Life only becomes complicated and stressful when we make it so. Take a few minutes to think about what you really enjoy, what really makes you happy, and you’ll find that they don’t cost much at all.
There's a Japanese legend that says, if you missed the bus, maybe you avoided the accident. If you got rejected, maybe you were saved from the wrong place. If they left, maybe they made room for who's coming.
The universe protects you in ways that look like bad luck at first. The job you didn't get. The person who walked away. The plan that fell apart at the last second. You called it misfortune. You questioned why everything kept going wrong for you. But maybe nothing was going wrong. Maybe it was protection you couldn't see yet.
When you start seeing it that way, everything shifts. Not everything that feels like a loss is actually a loss. Sometimes what hurts the most is what's quietly saving you from something worse. So trust the detour. The thing you're grieving might be the thing that saved you. The rejection might be redirection. The ending might be a beginning in disguise. You just can't see it yet. But one day you will.
The older I get, the more I realize that success at most things isn't about finding the one trick or secret nobody knows about. It's consistently doing the boring, mundane things everyone knows about but is too unfocused/undisciplined to do.
Get good at boring.
The fastest way to detect manipulation is to watch for people who push urgency without giving you time to think, so build a rule where you never agree to important decisions in the same moment they are presented, because time pressure is often used to bypass your judgment.
You feel regret when you overshare because deep down you know it is desperate ventriloquism; impulses, projections, and pieces of your shadow leak from sources unbeknownst to you and dictate your language.
Your inner world has a serious and impressive depth, but you consistently distract yourself to avoid confronting it. Every unique treasure in your head is left unexplored.
It is not confidence, authenticity, or being an open book. If you were to analyse your flight of undisciplined speech it would appear to you as it is: Gibberish.
Gobbledegook pours from your mouth.
You talk too much bc you're insecure. This is more common than you think, it is normal, and you need not feel ashamed or saddened by this, but understand why you keep doing it.
You have not disciplined yourself to order your chaotic thoughts, and so you cheat. Every unnecessary syllable that pollutes the air is tainted with the hope someone else will do the work you continue to neglect:
self-appraisal, honest reflection, grounding, thinking.
Before you have even thought, you search for someone else to validate your thoughts because you have been an unreliable narrator in your own life.
You do not live congruently. You have desires and ambitions you disguise with nonchalance; lack of trying. You fail to act on what you say you'll do, you have a picture of your life in your head, and you know it only exists because you are capable of being that person, flourishing in excess, but your desires have never become motion and you wake up each day knowing you will discover new ways to betray yourself.
Don't need to tell you. You know how you carry yourself when living in accordance to your most elevated inmost state. You slow down, confidence fills your voice, movements are relaxed and unhurried, yet precise and sharp when necessary. You have a self-assuredness because your magnetism attracts good things to you anyway. You do not need to convince, to justify, to explain. Power leaks into your gait, and spirit persists in every muscle.
That is your state of inner mastery.
But you must be brutally honest with yourself in solitude to find it.
