Westside Middle School Computer Club wins National Tech Trophy in Autonomous Vehicle Prototype. These 4 black brilliant students didn't have the advanced computer software for coding like the other 100 schools. They used refurbished parts & borrowed tools.
Long before African Americans were granted their freedom in law, extremely brave and intelligent enslaved people were leading their own revolutions and freeing themselves from the shackles placed around their feet.
George Zimmerman stalked, attacked, and then murdered a child. He was found not guilty because Trayvon Martin is Black. White people didn’t demand his execution; instead, they asked him to autograph bags of Skittles.
In February 1852, I left Cureton's property in Greenville, SC. I turned towards Fredericksburg, VA, where I was raised, where I knew every face and every road. Cureton had bought me in Richmond and taken all of that away. I was going back. My name was JOHN. #SC#blackhistory

BREAKING: ABC News Just Published Some Pretty Stunning ICE Data.
The administration says it is targeting the "worst of the worst."
But according to ABC's analysis of government data, only 3% of the more than 400,000 people detained by ICE between January 2025 and March 2026 had a violent felony conviction in the United States.
ABC reports that ICE apprehended more than 4,800 U.S. citizens and deported over 2,000 of them during the first eight months of 2025.
Activist Dion Diamond sitting on a counter stool during a civil rights sit-in, Arlington, 1960. He sat there being insulted, harassed, hit and was arrested multiple times for doing it and he’s still alive today.
—It was in the year 1960, at the height of racial segregation in the United States, Dion Diamond, a black man, had grown tired of having his rights constantly trampled on.
"Crazy Diamond" they called him at that time, this man entered the premises and went directly to the white area, sat down and stayed there without flinching. Sometimes groups of people gathered around him, threatening and insulting him and "Crazy Diamond" kept sitting without moving an inch.
Dion said "I would sit down, and they would tell me that they couldn't attend to me and I didn't move, groups of up to 15 or 20 people would come to tell me to get out and I didn't flinch, I would only leave if they threatened to call the police"
Just by sitting down, this activist made many people stand up and fight for change, with an act as simple as sitting down.
The DOJ is asking a federal court to let it defend an Ohio law that voting rights advocates say will disenfranchise thousands of eligible citizens from voting.
When Kansas passed a similar law, 12% of voters in the state who were trying to register for the first time were blocked from doing so. https://t.co/Mmcg8SUcYW
On this day in 1904, a white judge ordered a Black mother to brutally whip her 15-year-old son in front of hundreds of white people in Lexington, Kentucky.

White privilege isn't about calling white people bad. It's about recognizing how race still shapes who gets believed, protected, welcomed, and given opportunity.
The United States is a vibrant multiracial democracy, and our highest court should respect that. Our laws should reflect that. Communities of color should be able to elect representatives of their choosing.
Elias: Why does California have signature matching? They have it to satisfy the same right-wing zealots who claim there’s fraud, right?
So they do this whole kabuki theater that takes all of this time in order to contend with the fact that people say that if you don’t do signature matching, there’s going to be fraud. And then they get attacked for taking the time to do that very thing.
The fact that the New York Times thinks there’s a middle ground here… Here’s my message: I don’t compromise with Republicans because there is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist, and they are trying to burn down democracy.
"Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe."
-- Frederick Douglass
Step 9 in the fight for democracy is electing leaders who protect us. The FBI raids against Ohio grassroots organizations echo attacks on the right of Black and brown voters to be heard. We must be vigilant about defending our democracy — everywhere for everyone. So we register, engage, and vote. Together, we must protect our rights.
President Trump recently pardoned Stephen Buyer, a former member of Congress convicted of insider trading. For those keeping track at home, this makes *22* politicians convicted of corruption charges granted clemency by President Trump.

For generations, Black families and communities kept the legacy of Juneteenth alive through remembrance, education, and celebration—long before it received national recognition in 2021. Juneteenth reminds us that progress is often driven by those who refuse to let history be forgotten.
